When we got to the knobs and pulls stage, we were also totally out to sea. Whoever thinks about which ones go where? First we determined that there were no actual "rules" on this subject, so we were left with freewheeling it. We eventually decided on knobs for the uppers and pulls for the lowers. We have a pantry with 4 doors (2 up, 2 down) and a utility closet with a long cabinet above and 2 drawers below. We finally went with knobs only for the 4 pantry doors, and a pull for long, narrow utility cupboard door. After we'd ordered the hardware and were ready to install, I think we changed our minds on a couple of those, but that's how they ended up. FYI - pulls are a pain to put on, knobs are easy. The knobs and pulls thing is really individual. Sometimes your particular cabinetry style lends itself better to one than the other. You see this most in ultra-modern cabinets that look great with long pulls on everything. Retro-look cabs might do better with cup pulls, but pretty much you can do what you want. My one real piece of advice is go to a store and touch and feel. Some hardware will feel "just right" in use and other things just won't. Is the back side of the pull or knob scratchy? Do the square corners poke you or turn in your hand? Are they too big or too little for your hand? Are the pulls too close to the cabinet so you bump your knuckles every time you use it, or so far away that you bang your hip on it in passing? Things to think about before you invest.

Uh-oh. I spent my morning looking for pulls like the first one pictured. I have accidentally bumped into trendy (again!) without meaning to. Our 1936 house came with glass knobs and window pulls that look like the RH stuff and I was hoping to pick something similar for our new kitchen/addition. From what I can see, lots of manufacturers produce similar pulls, usually called window lifts, sash pulls or utility pulls. Some are cheaper coated zinc but the better and more expensive ones are solid brass and can be found plated in different finishes, which varies by manufacturer. You need to try different search terms to find them online because different manufacturers call them different names, but generally they are intended for window hardware, not kitchen cabinets, so if you look at a manufacturer or hardware site under a cabinet hardware subheading they won't show up. So far I have found similar pulls made by Baldwin (solid brass), Samuel Heath (UK), Schlage (solid brass), Croft (UK), Ives, Rocky Mountain, Merit Metal (solid brass), Brass Accents and Deltana (solid brass). One of these may be the actual manufacturer for RH. Some are less expensive than RH, like Schlage and Ives, some are similar, like Baldwin. I don't know why Deltana is so pricey but maybe somebody else can shed light on this company and why it charges more. For the larger sizes, look for what are called cabin door pulls. Merit Metal has some great looking ones, though not cheap. It seems like hardware meant for marine use has to be sturdier, so I have found some great-looking hardware at sites selling to boat and yacht owners (cool lighting for bathrooms, too). I haven't gotten to the glass knob matching yet, so if anybody has done research on those maybe we can start a different thread.

We used that pull in our guest bathroom. We finished our project last fall so I can't speak to longevity, but I think it's a beautiful pull. That said, I only had to buy two pulls. I may have chosen a different (cheaper) pull if I had to buy many more. ;)

Have Delta champagne bronze in kitchen with brushed brads pulls on cabinets along with pendant that have brushed brass components. I found it pretty easy to match of find coordinating pieces with good and brown undertones. Distance between items helps.
