I would call the house a bungalow also. Check in your public library. There are lots of books with pictures of bungalows that will give you ideas of what might be period correct. I like Jane Powell's books best for restoration suggestions. Moving the steps seems like a really bad idea to me. If you want to improve access, why not put your mailbox on a post at sidewalk level? Not only would it be cheaper, but you would not be ruining the integrity of the house. There are some very good looking period style mailboxes available if you want to carry the theme. As for the windows, personally I would keep the present windows, maybe get storm windows if heating is an issue. They can be restored if needed. Original windows plus storm windows are at least as good as dual pane windows. Despite what salespeople tell you, replacement windows are never as good. If you must replace them, please do not get vinyl windows. In my opinion, they are an abomination. I cringe when I see them. try building a scale model & putting different porches on it. It doesn't have to be an elaborate model, just to scale. Chipboard or foam core board are easy to build models with. An x-acto & elmers or hot glue can hold it all together. Draw on the windows & door. Then once you have the base model, try different porch designs. I could see possibly a porch roof starting up halfway on the main house roof & coming out at maybe half the pitch of house roof. That could cover from near the door to the right side. The gable end make a porch roof difficult. While you have a cute house, the exterior could use an upgrade. Doing that along with the porch would make sense if you could afford it. If you go that route, some professional design help might be helpful.

The dining room: Love the wall color, and I know you donâÂÂt want to hear this, but I love the color of the furniture. I think you could have an elegant, almost Gustavian look going on in there. I would change out the hardware to something in a brushed nickel finish. Love the chandy. I would want drapery panels in here, and would treat each window separately. Something like this might work, and would pair the rich wall color with the lighter finished furniture: audrey drape Then something simple for the chair seats: grace teal Try the trio of vases you have on the window seat in the FR as a centerpiece grouping on the DR table if you go with these fabrics. If you donâÂÂt want to use the cabinets for showing dishes, you could get some of the window wallpaper in a simple frost and cover the glass. etched glass wallpaper for windows Gathered sheer fabric is an alternative, but I am not sure that works with the style of the furniture. Or, take the cabinet out completely and use it in the sitting room as a bookcase. Replace it in the DR with another side piece, perhaps a solid wood piece in the finish color of the tabletop. I will say, tho, that I like the cabinet in the DR in part because it balances the height of the windows. For the sitting room, it is hard to say because we donâÂÂt know what the furniture or flooring will be like. But I would again think about panels, perhaps something in a textured linen or chenille, for a more casual and cozy feel. For the FR, I would like to see woven wood blinds or regular wood blinds to bring the floor color up to the window level. You could add fabric valances above the windows for some softness and color, and do matching or coordinating cushions on the window seats, and pillows for the sectional. You have a lovely home - how fun to have lots of great spaces to decorate.

I think she got the framed wedding dress idea from Adrienne Malooff in Bravo's Housewives of Beverly Hills. It was in the entrance to their closets. Divorced now, so wonder what she did with it.
