I would buy samples, paint some poster board, tape it to your island and look at it in all different lights. Morning, night, sun, rain, clouds, Etc. Your kitchen looks like it can be dark and I probably would not do a super dark gray green with your black counters.

I have agreeable gray walls and we did our lower cabinets and peninsula in black a few years ago.

That looks great! We have black countertops, so I think that’d be too dark for us. We wish we had lighter granite but it was put in new just before we bought the house.

This is amazing- thank you! I think we’ll have to get some samples and try painting boards to tape to our island, as someone suggested. We may eventually just need to commit to painting the cabinets but want to keep our options open for now, as we do have quality wood even though it’s an outdated look. I do like Retreat through!

SW's retreat does work well with gray. We just did that in our home office/guest room, where we did three walls in the gray, and Retreat on an alcove wall as an accent.
