yoyo re 'roundabouts' ^ ^ ^. We also have them over here at crossroads etc. to ease the flow of traffic.
Swings and Roundabouts in the sense "It's all a matter of swings and roundabouts" means 'a situation in which different actions or opinions result in no eventual gain or loss' ie much of a muchness . . . another 'saying'!

Vee, the playground equipment you call a roundabout is called a merry go round here (at least that's what I grew up calling them).

Generally in the US a "roundabout" is a looping traffic junction or circle where multiple roads enter.
I've never heard any playground equipment called that.
