Hi Margeetx! It seems to me that a lot of my plants did more poorly than usual when the heat set it. Anybody else notice this?

I thought it might be because we had some nice spring rains leading them to produce more leaves and roots and then suddenly there was intense heat and no rain. So it may not have been entirely your cancellation of the plant service after all.

By the way, ten hydrangeas and huge EE's sound very dramatic. Do you have any photos of them?

I also noticed we went from mild, cool weather to hot and dry weather. It was the dry weather that most affected my elephant ears. They grow largest in wet soil, and late spring into summer had too many dry weeks between rain events. I've never tried hydrangeas due to their preference for mild summer temperatures and more consistent rain than central Texas gets. From what I have read, fertilization is less important than moisture.

I couldn't save mine had to remove them all from this heat ...so sad.
