Converting Carport to Garage
Comments (1)I think increased resell value will all depend on whether it will look attractive when you're done. My folks built a matching detached garage when they turned the attached garage into a den. A brick fireplace now sits where the garage door once stood. [The old garage was a side entrance... with the door NOT facing the street.] It all came nicely together with matching brick and matching roof pitch. The den is about 22 x 22 and the new garage is 30 wide and 34 deep....See Moreconversion of carport to garage-sloping cement slab
Comments (0)is there an easy or less expensive way to level my sloping concrete slab to convert my carport to a enclosed garage. my slab is in great condition but if we put in a garage door on it there will be a 5 inch gap n one side. it was built like this in the 50's to allow water to drain out. Our contractor wants to charge us $15K just to dig up the old concrete, re-pour and level. That's before we even start enclosing the structure. This seems exorbitant to me just because our garage door will have large gap. I'm not sure why we need to did up the bulk of the carport floor. we know we will have o ut in a trench drain outside the entrance to the carport to keep water form getting and regrade. I understand foundation and support might be more of an issue with an addition above it, but I have not seen many completely demolished....See Morecarport to garage conversion
Comments (1)"Impossible" is a little overstated, but you can definitely generalize that it's not worth the conversion. Most carports are afterthoughts, without proper foundation, roof structure, tie-in to the house, nor any redeeming quality to retain. By the time you dig up (especially for seismic grade beams) and solidify any framing, it's easier and penny-wise to start over....See MoreDean Cook
