Awkward wall space in Kitchen

We are purchasing a new house and one wall in the kitchen looks unbalanced. I’m not sure what to do with it... I’ve never seen a refrigerator placed like that!! How can I fill this empty space?

Side table or desk? Maybe a bookshelf for cookbooks? Place to hang a lot of kitchen stuff? If you don't have a garbage spot, perhaps the place for trash cans?

Really like the floor!

You don't need to put anything there.

hang a picture. or a shelf. or doing a little floating shelf/desk w/a stool.

or maybe a framed chalkboard for notes.

In the old days there'd be a phone hanging on the wall.

what I would concentrate on is removing that backsplash tile!

Your idea of shelves between the sectional and chair seems odd. If you want to divide the walls, wouldn't you want the shelves (or other thing) between the blue chair and the kitchen table? It seems to me that the only way to add to the wall art is to re-think what you have there now. I am a fan of large artwork like you have over the sectional, but it often doesn't lend itself to having other pieces around. So ideally, if I wanted to fill out that wall, I would remove the art over the sectional and turn the wall into a gallery wall that mimicked the upward slant to the ceiling. But, gallery walls are hard to pull off; I doubt I could do one well enough to satisfy myself.

I'd probably put a small set of shelves or drawers in front of the (currently curtained) window, and use the area as a landing space for coming in and out of your patio door. Maybe add a coat tree and shoe tray. Whatever you're carrying in or out (drinks, food for the BBQ, snacks, yard toys, etc).

Would it be feasible to 'fill in the blank' in the area of the window you spoke of removing? You could extend the kitchen into that space and have the minimum aisles and island with seating. If you need a support post for a new beam, it could go between the sink and range. You'd need to use a narrow base cabinet on each side of the post, but the space in front could be used as a slot for cutting boards. Short wall and sink area would stay m/l as is. Normally I'd put the DW on the other side, but when the door is open it would interfere with traffic from the entry. Adding a sink to the island, to make that the primary prep space, would help. This is rotated, and not exactly to scale: If another support post is necessary, it could be added on the back of the island, and cabinets rearranged, but only three seats would be used: It would be nice to have some counter space beside the fridge, so the MW could go in an upper cabinet: ETA, a quick idea using the existing footprint, but it would mean adding plumbing and possibly some imaginative venting if you can't go straight up: NKBA guidelines New to Kitchens? Yeah, I did wonder if this room needed to serve other purposes, being in NYC, but we all know a coffee table can serve many purposes! :)) If you need a real desk (and can't squeeze it into a bedroom), I think I'd suggest drawing your room to scale, on graph paper, and then cutting out the various pieces to try. Here are some places I would start: 1) If you give up on the fireplace as a decorative element, you could put a desk against the kitchen wall and get a desk chair that has a swivel (so that it can be turned away from the desk when you have company. (Keep a loose runner you can throw over everything on it, heh.) 2) If you keep the couch toward the window and keep it "apartment size," then there should be space between it and the hallway for a desk. It may have to be a little narrow to not cause a pinch point there, but you could tape it off and see. 3) you could get a small workstation-size desk just a couple of feet wide and put it in the window/white wall corner, facing the windows. then just start your couch ensemble a little farther down the wall and put an end table and lamp at the kitchen end. or I guess you could use it anywhere, and roll it away when company comes! While I'm thinking about it, the trick to tiny apartments is to make everything do double duty. Coffee table with a drawer underneath for remotes and coasters (and placemats); end table that hides a cabinet for computer gear; etc. Good luck! hope this helps.

That’s quite a hike going from the hot ovens to a counter top to set down hot, maybe heavy pans! So maybe another countertop surface?

well since you're painting, do you have room for a tall pantry cabinet in that spot??

maybe a broom closet? (better than this tho)

our maybe something like this for the micro or beverage or coffee bar?

I am going with white! I like bright kitchens. And I’m painting the whole house. With white cabinets and those countertops I’m trying to figure out what kind v of backsplash. I’m thinking with the floors, Spanish or Italian influence. So I want a more rustic backsplash

ok. better shot. I used to have very similar granite. it's nice w/white cabs. I'd prob wait until everything is done before deciding on a new tile.

once all of that dark wood and trim is painted white you'll be amazed at how bright it will look.

I need to have an actual to scale floor plan it will allow me to know exactly how wide the walkways are rustic does not come to mind with those very traditional floors I see many issues with this kitchen so IMO hold off until you have lived there at 3 months before doing anything. It is imperative before spending huge money on painting cabinets that the kitchen is actually functional and IMO it is not right now.

I’d wait a while to see if you can actually function with the current layout.

it looks bizarre and no landing by the oven is dangerous. I’d be saving to tear the whole thing out.
