Replacing ancient centrl unit - what do I need to ask?
Comments (4)tropical with an electric bill like that, obviously something is wrong. could be the AC, might be something else. I would cut the AC off, get a reading from your meter both now and two hours later. get the difference. this should at least confirm if it's the AC or another appliance pulling abnormal amount of electricity. what size is existing system and it's age? so your heat strips are defective and you have been without any heat for the moderate winters you have? you need an HVAC pro to perform a load calc for cooling and heating. you do want a new system that meets the tax credit qualifying standard of 13 EER and 16 SEER for a straight AC system. Comments (4)Thanks jck910 for your comments. We approached the landlord a few months after moving in about doing work in and outside the house. He gave us written permission to do anything we wanted to and offered to pay for the flooring and the paint. So as for hiring someone, the decision was mutually agreed that we would do the work with the exception of the floors. He wants they done right even though we've done it before with friends in their homes. But I get to pick all the colors....See MoreWhat can I do to this wall for decoration? Can't paint the wood
Comments (17)Thank you for all the suggestions! This is amazing. I actually just got rid of a light blue suede couch that i've had for years (it looked great) but we switched it out because we have 2 small kiddos. It was a mess within a year. Embarrassed to say, but this couch is new to us =) Hindsight, i wouldn't have bought brown...lol. @Maureen thank you. I think a bookshelf may also work in that space and love your suggestions as well. Off to Winners I go.. I love the idea of fabric, thank you @freedomplace1 something I didn't even consider. I have a whole house of pine paneling so I'm going to try this in one of our other rooms. @ShadyWillowFarm acreage house from the 70's. Working on slowly updating but can't afford a full reno right now and husband has something against painting wood.. here is the other side of the room.. TV will be mounted on the fireplace with a mantel soon. @bever tteder @Irene Morresey I've been on the hunt for a great large canvas/art for about a year but can't seem to find anything that I love. Would you hang it center of the couch or center of the wall?...See More"white slime" in mini-split AC wall unit...what to do?
Comments (0)Sigh. It seems my annual Mini-Split Money Pit Challenge has begun. This here Toshiba mini-split wall unit has collected the white foam seen in the photo in the past, but this year it's especially bad. Some quick research leads me to believe it is a common issue of algae growth. Can I just try to wetvac this stuff out, spray with a 50/50 bleach and water mix, and then wetvac the drain lines in case their starting to clog? Or am I being ridiculous and I should call a professional in to clean the three units @ nearly $300 each for a full cleaning? Thanks in advance for your sage advice. :)...See MoreMae Day Organizing and Interior Design
