I’ve had two FP’s. The first one lasted about 15 years on both drawers with few issues (follow instructions and don’t cram something in it that doesn’t let the top lid come down completely). One of the drawers stopped working and we continued another 3 years using only the other drawer. Then last year we replaced the whole unit with a new double drawer unit. I love it. I love not having to bend over to load or unload the top drawer. I think a drawer fits much more than 1/2 a load. I feel like I have 2 dishwashers in the space of one dishwasher.

I know Bosch is good too. I looked at both. Ultimately the FP drawers fit our kitchen a lot better than a pull down door and I am very happy with it. Much easier to walk around, load and unload. YMMV.

As far as the plastic being “cheap,” it isn’t. I pulled parts out of my old dishwasher to upcycle, lol. For example I’m still using the old silverware caddy for the picnic table. It’s over 20 years old and nothing is wrong with it!

My DD is 17yo, coincidentally today. The drawers/tubs are in like-new condition.

Plastic muffles the water spray sounds, doesn't resonate like metal. It also insulates better against heat loss. Hold a metal / aluminum pie tin on your hand and pour boiling water into it. Note how quickly you have to drop it due to the heat passing through. Do the same with a plastic bowl (robust enough to handle the water), note the difference in how long you can hold it.

are the drawers your only dish washer or do you have an additional one as well? if they’re the only ones, how many people are in your home and how often do you run them?

it sounds like you’re pleased with them. I think I will be too. I’m considering getting a full dishwasher and a top drawer. This way is have the best of both worlds. My only concern now is the space for them both.

@Salma ... the double-drawer DishDrawer is my only dishwasher, household of one. I alternate between the top and bottom drawers. I typically run a load every 2 to 4 days, depends on how much cooking and whether there are guests.

Note that there's no such thing as a specific "top" drawer. They're manufactured and sold as either a double-drawer unit or a single-drawer unit. A double-drawer model is not the same thing as two single-drawers stacked together. Double-drawer models are a unitary outer cabinet with two drawers inside, like a two-drawer file cabinet ... they cannot be separated. A two-drawer unit has one water input connection (dual valve feeds separately to each drawer), and two drain hoses (separate pumps for each drawer) which combine via a Y-adapter to one drain connection.

Likewise, two single-drawer units cannot be physically combined into a double-drawer machine. They could be installed stacked together but must have a partition/support panel between, and separate water input and drain connections.

When I purchased my current home, it had the two drawer F/P dishwasher. I loved it. Easy to run just the top drawer and not have to bend down so far to unload. My homes appliances were about 10 years old at that point. About six months after moving in, the drawers started to leak. I had a home warranty at that point, still and they were never able to stop the leak.

I ended up replacing with a conventional Bosch dishwasher which I absolutely love. Super quiet. That was about 10 years ago. I have a repair person coming this week. I think the pump will need to be replaced. We'll see on the price if I will just replace the d/w at this point.

What I liked about the double drawers is that I while cooking, I could start the top running and then move to start filling up the bottom and then after the dinner the top was ready to load again. Maybe I will go back to them--I just remember the water on my floor near the end.

does your Bosch leave your dishes wet since it doesn’t have a heating element.

@Salma Chadha Plastics will be wet after the cycle, but the water is hot enough that glass and metal stuff is dry.

Also interested to hear what the final decision was! Happy with the product? I’m very interested in the 2 drawer model and debating whether to just go for it (used to my traditional single door Bosch)…

i bough a brand new f/p. during the 3rd year the top drawer started to leak. we had to change the softner mechanism. the next year the lower drawer started to leak and the door was all rusty, so had to change the softner and the door. A year later the rotor stopped working. so within 7 years we spent almost 40% of the original cost on fixing the dishwasher. now it starts to leak again. so i plan to buy a new dishwasher most likely from Bosch.
