Black interior doors?

I live in a cookie cutter house from the early 1990s, filled with the oak trim that was so popular. Little by little we’ve made updates, including adding French doors in the kitchen and dining room, as well as the den, that are stained to match.

I’m SO sick of oak trim everywhere that I’m talking myself into painting it all white. I’ve seen photos of oak French doors with white trim that look lovely, so I’ll keep them like that. Here’s the catch—I also have cheap hollow-core doors through the entire house.

I have very little budget, but I’d like to add molding and paint those doors when I paint the trim. The questions is:
Can I paint them black?

Would that look too weird? I’ve seen black doors with white trim that look beautiful. I’ve seen oak French doors with white trim that look beautiful. Can these all be in the same house?

I’ve searched photos on Houzz and if I find wood French doors, the interior doors are usually white.

Sure you can. I also live in a cookie-cutter house from the 1990's. A few months ago I painted my closet doors black and added black hardware. For all of my hallway doors, I added molding to the face of the doors and painted them bright blue. The great thing about paint is that it is cheap and easy to change if you decide you dislike it.

Go for it. All paint is just under coat anyway. I painted the coat closet in the entryway black and the French pocket door into the dining room black. I’m thinking of doing more doors. I left the trim white to match the rest of the house.

Thanks everyone, your suggestions are much appreciated. I have so much to consider still, as the house is only block at this point. It's a ranch style stucco home, with square windows and columns so the direction is pretty much up to me. With the modern front doors that I chose , and the gray and white exterior with some stone, that I'm planning I think it's more transitional than modern or traditional. The furniture is a mix of Farm house and traditional, a lot of grays, creams. I plan on adding touches of black so I thought black doors would look nice. I'm up in the air with a lot of things, and putting the cart before the horse so to speak with the door color it may seem...but I'm being pressed about the door choice from my husband and if they are to be painted black I'll need to know soon. So thanks for all ideas, much appreciated. I'll decide soon:)

We like Schlage, and they have a nice matte black finish, as well as quite a few knob styles, which you can mix and match with their rosette styles to create a look like you show.

Letting black interior doors cure

Emerald in a dark color takes 30-45 days to cure. You’d do better to go with one of the Italian 2K polys. They dry and cure much more rapidly. And are far tougher. Join the Kitchen Cabinet Panting Experts group on Facebook and study the info in the Units there.

What kind of doors? Slab or panels? In my opinion, black will show a lot more dust/dirt/dings than white will, particularly with panel doors (if that's a concern). I'm pretty neat, but my dog and cat shed :) . To be truthful and fair, I seldom prefer black doors even if upkeep were not a concern. Would really have to fit the house for me to go in that direction. I have seen doors/trim in an interesting French Linen color that was quite stunning and definitely something I would consider.
