Fingerprint Resistant Stainless or Black Stainless Appliances?

We are doing a full kitchen remodel and going with a basic white, farmhouse look. I am trying to decide between fingerprint-resistant stainless (does it really resist fingerprints?) or black stainless (slate) appliances. I’m leaning toward black hardware and a stainless steel sink. Is black stainless too modern or too much contrast with white cabinets? Any experience with cleaning either of these? I’ve only ever had white or black appliances in the past. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice!

I like my fingerprint resistant stainless in my white "farmhouse" kitchen. It is easy to clean, and magnetic - which is something I missed with our previous stainless fridges. However, you should note that the fingerprint resistance comes from a thin plastic coating, so be very careful not to scratch it. There's reviews online saying it looks terrible after being scratched. The only magnets I use are covered in felt on the back and I never drag things across the fridge.

Yes it now does resistbprints.. I have a Bosch. This is my first stainless. My other is paneled.

I discovered Weinman polish wipes which are quick and easy.

I am past the magnet stage. Years ago, we posted on my white fridge various schedules and notices for the kids. I always hated how sloppy this looked. I was happy to replace it with the paneled so no longer magnetic.

In my Florida house, again just the two of us now so no need to put magnets in the fridge.

Mix water and rubbing alcohol 50/50 and pour into a spray bottle. Spritz and wipe with a soft clean cloth. Works for me.

I am considering Black Stainless instead of regular Stainless Steel as a finish for new kitchen appliances that I am buying very soon and want advice from those who own such appliances and others who are considering this new finish. Black stainless looks sharp, but is it truly more fingerprint and smudge resistant and easier to clean? What do you clean it with? Also some have said online that it scratches and dents more easily than stainless steel and that you then see silver underneath..... is this true? In particular, I am considering refrigerator models by Samsung and LG (please see my earlier post and comment if you know anything about the particular models that I am considering.) However, what I am most worried about is when I must replace my built-in microwave and wall ovens, I will be limited in choice and locked into buying from certain companies if I choose black stainless over stainless steel for a refrigerator. The black stainless of Samsung is a little darker than the black stainless of LG, and I am not sure if these companies make good wall ovens or microwaves. It is possible that Kitchen Aid and GE also make some sort of black stainless according to Yale Appliance, but I am not sure about mixing appliance companies. But I do value function over aesthetics, so I want the best mid-range company for each appliance in my kitchen. Need advice quickly, since I need to buy soon!

We just purchased all new appliances for our new kitchen and I was considering the black stainless. However, the sales guy advised me against it for all the reasons listed above. He explained how the "finish" is really just a film over stainless steel and showed an example of how it scratches on a floor model. It was enough to steer me away and go for the more traditional stainless. I have had the fridge for about 6 months and it cleans up really well with little to no fingerprint marks. The microwave, dishwasher and stove are being delivered on Saturday. All of my appliances for the past 9 years have been Whirlpool and I have been pretty happy with them.

The problem with black appliances is that they absorb light like nobody’s business. Especially a fridge door. Also black stainless has been reported on this forum to scratch easily. Also, I’d be concerned that it’s a new color, and new appliance colors go out pretty fast, unlike classic stainless or white. And finally, black stainless is not very “farmhouse” if that is truly the look you are going for. Though the word “farmhouse” has been used so loosely and ubiquitously over the past few years, so who knows.
