Oh yeah ! Gene does look right to me too. I kept looking and thinking it was familiar but couldn’t recall. Does it water spot easily. Mine did .

I don’t think Gene water spots that I have noticed but we don’t get rain here in the summer. One year it got powdery mildew and it also grew out of control that year. Do you know if it’s tolerant of hard pruning in the winter? All of the canes are old wood.

Don’t be so hard on yourself - they look great! Also, some roses don’t have a bushy shape by nature - it’s nothing you did, that’s just how they’re shaped. Do you feed them? Roses really like to be fed, just don’t overdo it & follow the package directions.

Cyndita I do feed them and this year they are doing better with some extra care. More deep watering by hand a couple times a week especially. I also feed them a variety of things but I can’t tell when they are “hungry”. Everyone says some roses are extra hungry but how do you know? I have seen some brown tips and edges on some leaves so I could be over feeding a bit but mostly they seem fine.

The all look pretty modern to me - I'm not sure that the ranks of old garden roses are where the names for these are going to be discovered. At least not all of them.

Casey - re feeding, check the “N-P-K” letters on the package, which tells you the fertilizer strength. If it’s a strong fertilizer (I consider anything with numbers larger then about 5 to be relatively strong), only use occasionally according to the package directions, to avoid burning the plants. If it’s a mild supplement like fish or seaweed extract, you can feed pretty much as often as you want without worry.

In general, to encourage re-bloom it helps to feed once a flush ends & you deadhead the spent buds. In places with freezing winters you don’t want to feed too close to the first frost as feeding can stimulate tender new growth, but that shouldn’t be an issue where you are.

The house was built in 1935 but I’m guessing the rose garden dates back to the 80’s. Only the 2 roses pictured are ‘originals’ since I have replaced the rest that weren’t healthy. I’m still leaning towards Comte de Chambord for the fuschia one

No, that fuschia one is not Comte de Chambord. Look on HMF roses for photos. Good luck.

I agree that it is not Comte de Chambord. Have you tried looking up Grande Dame? Does it look similar?

I think your right @rosecanadian. I just checked the introduction date on HMF, and it says it was introduced in 2011. Much too late for an 80's rose garden : ). Something about this rose looks very familiar, but I just can't put my finger on it.

I have one more guess: Old Port?????

Old Port looks more ruffly than mine but good suggestion. What about Reine de violettes? Or Madame Isaac Pereire?

Or La Reine Victoria? I get those mixed up.

Hi @Casey LouLou! Reine de violettes, Madame Isaac Pereire, and La Reine Victoria are bourbon and hybrid perpetual roses, which are old garden roses. Old garden roses tend to have long arching canes and matte green leaves. The flowers on your rose look very similar to those roses, but the growth habit seems to be more upright and the leaves look a little bit glossy to me. I think the rose you have is most likely a modern rose, probably a hybrid tea, grandiflora, or floribunda. I will see if I can come up with any more guesses.
