I like the metal and glass railings , where are planning the deck? I see a railing going down the steps to the basement why not the same for the deck. BTW you will cover all those small windows once the deck is in is that going to be an issue in the basement .

Thank you for your comment! Honestly, I hadn't even considered matching the basement railing. The deck will wrap around the morning room (left side) and not extend as far as the three windows on the right side. I don't want to look out at patio furniture from inside. In terms of covering windows, the plan has them just under the underside of the deck for egress and for light, it won't be a problem. My husband loves the "cave" of man-cave feel.

Glass railings kill birds! They cannot see the glass, and they fly right into it and break their necks. PLEASE do not do glass for your railings!

I am hugely disappointed in my Trex deck. It was the premium “Trex Transcend“ boards, too. The boards shrank, warped, faded. They get so hot in the sun that I had to put down outdoor rugs so the dogs would not burn their paws.

I think on your house a railing with metal pickets would work well. Like this:

But you can do a deck of composite boards and still do a custom wooden railing. My deck has a wood railing with the Trex boards on the top.

The white railing would go nice since you have all white trim on the house. It also looks good with that color decking. You can also use a combination of post sleeves matching deck color and railings in white. Or use black railings matching your basement but they get too hot.
