When you move it to back to the garden it might be a good idea to remove the feeder...They'll see it expect it to have feed in it...and spy your garden... I bought a roll of indoor/outdoor grass carpet. I'm going to put it on the ground in about a 5 foot square with landscape timbers around it. stick a potted plant in each corner and set up my birdfeeder in the center. With the hope of NOT growing a weed garden. I'm still fight weeds where the feeder used to sit. I love your Obelisk... I'd like to build one and grow yellow and orange trumpet vine on it. I bought one of those small wind mills once..the wind tore the blades all apart...so I took the stand part of it and put a wooden ball (like for a porch railing corner) paint the whole thing green and planted a climber on it...That worked good..only now it needs painting again and it is covered with vine. patti

I would really love a Photoshop. Not sure I can do it in Microsoft Photo Editor. But carpenter was here today (sorry no pics) trying to work out crown. We're still deciding on 3/4" overlapped valance with an ogee bottom where it meets the cabinet, 2" reveal all around (I'm pushing for 3" on lower cabinets to get top of crown right at bottom of valance on the higher cabinets - guess it depends on how much the valance comes down over top of existing cabinet), or valance/frieze board flush with the face of the cabinets (3/4" overlap would be flush with the face of the doors, that's what he wants) with half round to hide the joint (that would match my china cabinet). Anyway, we looked at bumping the valance/crown out over the sink to clear the light but he said the "wings" attached to sides of my 12" deep cabinets would be fragile - he would biscuit join, glue and clamp, and then screw them in if that's what I wanted. And he pointed out there would still be a kind of awkward space at the tops of the 12" deep cabinets behind the bumped out part where I would be able to see the factory edge of the cabinet, and the back of the valance he builds, since we have to leave it open for the light. So, best we could come up with was bringing the crown straight back along the sides of the existing cabinets right to the wall (no angled shelves) and then bringing the 3/4" thick valance (2-3" high) and the crown up against the wall over the window. That would leave about 1.5" of paint between the pine window casing and the oak valance/crown, and the crown would project only 3" from wall so shouldn't cast a shadow. There would be the same 5.5" strip of paint showing b/t the crown and the ceiling as I have on the lower cabinets. The thing with that is, b/c the cabinets project 12", I don't think I'm really going to notice the wall color above the crown, though obviously it won't look like the crown is anywhere near the ceiling. I'm afraid with it applied directly to the wall, I will see a strip of paint above and below and it will look strange. What do you think?

I believe expansion of a deck is fairly common. In your case, since you know your objective, take some time to plan the enlargement. Presuming that everything will be at the same level, and section "A" decking runs parallel to the house, have some short pieces of decking along the side of "A" that abuts "B" that you can remove to nest the boards into a common floor. Call this your "hooks" so an expansion will not be as apparent. All of the decking boards will run the same direction for both sections. The option of mitering or doing herringbone corners for your "L" shape is lost with a multiple segment build. If bug free in the screened portion is your goal, remember to install some screening below the decking for that section. The only problem I foresee is the decking lumber itself. It shrinks after installation. Because the new lumber will be "unshrunk", poitiioning them to be uniform will necessitate your measuring rather than merely spacing for their placement. Do they make ones with a base? I mean, I guess they must. I've just never seen one. I got a big S hook at Lowes and hung the feeder from a lip on the roof of the porch. Worked like a charm! It's nice and sturdy and I've already got a pair of hummers fighting over it! It's fun to watch them (although I prefer when they don't fight!). I even had a goldfinch sit on top of it (he looked perturbed by the fact that the food was not for him and then left).
