Please help me ID my crape myrtle
Comments (4)Couple more details that might be helpful: Autumn foliage colour is orange. The tree started blooming in early May (I'm in the equivalent of zone 9 or 10) I suspect it's budded on a 4-foot single trunk (standard form). The branches are very thin and they slope downwards (very elegantly) instead of growing upwards. some of the new branches start horizontal and then slope downwards as they get longer....See MoreHelp with Crape Myrtle
Comments (1)A photo would help alot if possible. I know from my crape myrtles that they can take a hard pruning if needed. I think if cut to the ground new sprouts would grow but would take a couple years to develop the interesting bark found on larger and older bushes. Good Luck, TJ...See MoreHelp with Sick Red Rocket Crape Myrtle
Comments (7)Speaking or Red Rockets, I have planted one in my back yard that just recently bloomed for the first time, and the blooms came out PINK!? I'm really upset about it, because I really liked the color of red rockets that I have seen on the internet and was pretty excited about seeing it bloom.... I spoke with someone at millburgers' in san antonio where i bought the 5 gallon plant a couple of months ago and they told me that all of their red rockets are blooming pink at the moment... they told me to give the blooms a chance to mature and that maybe they would change color.... Is this right? do the red rocket blooms change as they get older??...See MoreDid he "crape-murder" my crape myrtle ?
Comments (3)Chas045 wasn't belittling you at all. He meant "it might be a draw" to prune it like that because crape myrtles bloom on new wood only. It will grow bigger branches for you and bloom better this summer. That is why alot of people and landscapers cut the crape myrtle back like that. Don't worry about it, it will be fine. You won't even notice it in a couple years, they grow really fast. It will bloom better for you, wait and see. Smile and be happy....See Morelkayetwvz5
