how high can I install my Zephyr Monsoon in a 25" deep hood?
Comments (10)regbob, thanks for the insights. Well I look at it a little differently. Since I have a special needs child I often put things on the burner farthest back with nothing burning on the front. Secondly, I do not want to be in an uncomfortable position or have to bend awkwardly to 'learn' not to bump my head. That makes no sense to me to purposely put something where my head might bump into it. I cook only a little for fun and mostly out of necessity and I don't need any negative reinforcements to being around the range. My cabinet makers made a nice mockup of my hood with two strong guys holding it at various heights and me practicing lifting something to the back burner, which is the primary time my head may bump. 33" off the stove, or 69" from the floor, seemed like a good clearance. I do not know how much functionality I am losing from the hood being this far away. Maybe some. But coming from a kitchen with none, I think I can live with this....See MoreHood insert recommended by appliance store, is it the right one?
Comments (8)I am so not an expert, but am also considering a Zephyr insert for over a 36" induction cooktop (probably Miele), and from what I've gleaned 27" doesn't seem wide enough. Based on recommendations that exhaust hood be at least 6" wider than cooktop, I'm looking at the AK94AS ("Power Monsoon DCBL") - blower goes from 250 min. to 715 max. CFM. I THINK that "power pack" means that you're buying the operational guts of the hood (motor, grease-collecting apparatus, lights, etc.) to be installed in your own enclosure (e.g. cabinetry, custom fabricated metal surround, etc.), and that "internal blower" means that the mechanism that actually blows the nasty stuff out of your kitchen is located right within the guts that you're buying - as opposed to having the blower within the ductwork or outside at the end of the duct run ("external blower"). Hope that I haven't horribly mangled anything & that someone with more knowledge will chime in!...See MoreRange insert/liner decision - Zephyr Monsoon or Modern-Aire?
Comments (4)Flow rate (cfm) depends on the aperture area of the hood having enough air velocity to contain the rising effluent. It is not particularly dependent on whether gas or induction is used. Further, except for the need to remove gas combustion byproducts, the rising effluent from cooking on gas or cooking on induction will be the same for the a given cooked food. Pro style gas ranges, however, often provide grills that can generate greasy smoke at higher levels than pan fried fare on induction is likely to do, barring walking away and forgetting that the setting is too high. A given fan at the end of a short duct run will probably be equally loud as the same fan in the hood, but roof mounted fans can be larger than ones sized for the hood and can be run at lower speeds for the same cfm, reducing blade tip turbulence noise. Turbulence noise induced by a duct turn or two will probably be less than the hiss of the air through the hood filter baffles. kas...See More54" Zephyr Monsoon II vs. Best by Broan 54" Potenza - Clear Winner??
Comments (2)They are the same hood. Zephyr was purchased by Broan a few years ago. These hoods are basically carbon copies of each other with different marketing strategies! The Broan IQ blower claims quieter more efficient performance. Thats about it. I wouldn't stake my reputation to that claim though!...See MoreTH Kitchen Installations
