move gas range, inspection questions/fears

Living in a one family home in Queens NY. We are starting the kitchen renovation process. Will be moving my gas range from it current position to the wall across (wall to wall about 7ft, between side door and window). Do i need to pull permits for all of this? Also if we do, which i am pretty sure we do, can someone inform me about all the inspections? Will they be going down stairs to my basement? This is my biggest concern. I currently have a sink down there that is NOT in the original plans, we bought the house and it was down there. Will these gas line inspections, cause a whole issue with this and force me to remove the sink. Can i put up like a sheet rock wall around that area and then they do not see it? I just keep hearing different stories, and have no desire to move my range, and then that causes me to have to rearrange my entire basement. My gas meter is located in the basement, actually directly below and on the wall we are moving the range to.
