I think the platinum takes the fun out of your particular tile design. I'd go lighter like the white ( or other nice light color for your marble ). Or I'd go darker than the platinum. Was you sample totally dry when you took that picture? It took my samples over a day to really dry down for a realistic reading. Do some more samples. My carrara is more of a tannish color. I used Natural which was sort of concrete color. It had an ever so slight green to it. Other grays were pinkish and did not look good with my tile. My different trials in the picture were Natural & white, total Natural, & last, Natural cut with a little white. I ended up blending Natural with a bit of white in a 3:1 ratio for my final material. I wanted some contrast.

I like the idea of a basic white something, but not marble. I know, I'm the only person in the world who doesn't like marble. But something in a soft white with a slight color varation -- that's a good possibility. Lovely kitchen though. Very much like the layout I'll have. Yeah, no surprise that it's a "premium granite". However, I'm not splurging on a whole lot of things, so I can have this; and I do want a "good piece". I've read in several places that this is something you want to go pick for yourself because all slabs aren't equal. Cool that it's the same stuff as security holograms. Nice conversation item. My kitchen'll be small . . . but will have a fairly large amount of natural light. I do agree that light is going to be the best choice. Love the suggestion to go with a nice cut edge. I wouldn't have considered that the inclusions would be spectacular in that situation.

If you find that you need to use a temporary fix for the tile, you could do what I had to do back in the 1980s: The previous owner of the house had installed parquet flooring tile on the wall of the family room, above the knotty pine built in cabinets. I didn't have the $$ to tear them off and repair the wall. I used wallpaper liner - a heavy, smooth paper that concealed all of the joint lines in and between the tiles. This gave me a smooth base. I then applied a wallpaper that I liked - but for your purpose, there exists wallpaper that is made to be painted - In fact, at Bed Bath & Beyond's website they show both plain liner paper that can be finished with paint, and a paintable paper that mimics a plaster wall. There are many patterned options out there, too, most not what you'd want but there are a couple with only a fine pattern (like, to mimic linen) and even a beadboard look-a-like.
