Flooring Design Dilemma entry

I need help, can’t stand this tile

The entryway has a circular pattern with round mosaic tiling. I feel the coloring is yellowish is an otherwise earth tone neutral decor. What can I do? Rug? Dig it up and put something else in the floor?
Is it just me?

I’m not the biggest fan of those two tile combinations, but a less brown wall color might help the room blend better.

So it was placed to reinforce the circular shape of the foyer. It's too warm compared to your tile. Can you get more of your tile and just replace this?

You can replace the circle with the same tile turned on the diagonal

You can replace this with a contrasting colored tile.

Here are inlay options.

Thanks, Jenny. I'll try to post a photo later. I think this may be due to overwatering. Last night I checked the bottom of the container and there was some water in the little saucer underneath the container. I water once or twice a day, usually a half gallon or a gallon at a time and the plant is in a 6 gallon container. I didn't think that was too much water given the heat and humidity we've had recently. Anyway, I've picked off the ailing leaves with any sign of yellow or blight and I'm hoping that the plant will come through okay if it dries out. By the way, I see no signs of disease or discoloration on the stems or any part of the plant, just the leaves, so I'm hoping the Daconil will help. I know it won't cure the EB, but will hopefully stop its spread. Thanks!

I wish I could change the name of this thread I started three weeks ago! I would call it "New countertop Loving it!" Its been ten days since I posted the first photos and revealed the identity of my stone. I got to enjoy it for only a few minutes on a gray day before the contractor enveloped it in butcher paper so work could continue around it. On Wednesday evening I prepared to celebrate Thanksgiving by unveiling the stone. Since then I have enjoyed many happy hours with it. NYC has been blessed with a sunny holiday, and the stone is even more beautiful in a kitchen drenched with sunlight. It also photographs better, though the green still looks washed out. Ive posted new photos, including some close-ups. Cloud_swift predicted I would be even happier with my stone after living with it a while. In fact, it grows on me by the hour. To walk into the kitchen now is literally thrilling. I never know what to expect, as it changes with the light, always surprising me with how blue it is, but sometimes more green, sometimes reminiscent of stainless steel, and as the light fades, quieting to a rich dark gray. Aunttomichael -- "soapstone lover" -- got it exactly right: the effect is both serene and intense (which I think is true of soapstone as well.) Before this experience I knew literally nothing about stone. Now I learn from Theresab1 that Im a member of the (very exclusive!) "Azul Macaubas Club" though I agree with Cloud_swift (she of the glorious azul do mar) who calls it the "Quartzite from Brazil Club." While my stone is indeed quartzite from Brazil, I, like Mindstorm, find it hard to believe it shares the same name as Theresab1s amazing stone, which Mindstorm describes as "almost onyx-like in its translucent whiteness with streaks of blue" As she notes, mine is nothing like that! Not at all white or even light-colored. Its predominantly blue with a lot of pale green. In a single slab, the blue ranges from a deep, rich blue to greenish-blue to pale blue to deep lavender a shade Cloud_swift noted in azul macaubas slabs she saw. The only photos Ive seen of anything similar were a variant called Azul Imperial. Theres a lot of interesting information at www.bluemacaubas.com. The most important thing Ive learned, though, is that you dont choose a stone by its name unless you are willing to settle for an arranged marriage!

ACM - treasure trove of new ideas. Binging on placement of grab bars and grab bars with double lives now! Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Also I have decided on a white subway tile for the shower walls with the handmade whooshy look to the texture. Finally to the silly question that isn’t silly at all - the room in the bottom right of the floor plan which is cut off - we planned it as a bedroom with a wall of reach in closets + a spread of wall between two windows big enough for a queen bed. For now, though, we will use it as a flex room = office den and guest room. We’ll have a built In desk situation in lieu of the closet, a pull out or at least very large couch in lieu of a bed, and a media spot for den life. So A less mobile guest could stay at our house a little more easily as a result of this planning. Not ADA but something. On our urban lot size around here, you would often find the equivalent of this space used for a formal (no doors) living room or an office too small to accommodate a closet or a substantial bed so these trades are significant nods to thinking ahead. Since I added a good 3-4 feet to the typical size of this front room, finding another 5 feet for an en suite bathroom would really push the boundaries of the available configurations. So nothing is perfect but I will have more rather than fewer options if and when the time comes. I’ve heard others complain of the lack of this type of first floor options in typical configurations around here so these small considerations may set us apart for future buyers as well. 1. What color and type/brand of flooring would you recommend? Looking for a "wood look" flooring that will stand up to big dogs, dripping kids and is budget friendly and scratch resistant. No wood flooring will every hold up to big dogs. You'd be better off going with a wood look tile. They're not the cheapest, but they hold up well and won't need replacing after a few wet dogs run thru your new cabin. 2. What type and color of counter tops? Should the island and counter tops be the same or different colors? I love the look of quart, but would be interested in more affordable options that would hold up well. Since you say you're going for cozy, I'd suggest using the same color for a more harmonious space. Changing the color works well in larger spaces in my opinion. 3. The rectangular game table will be placed near the entry door. Looking for furniture placement ideas and decorating ideas. Not sure about this one, sorry. 4. What should I do on the wall with the fireplace. My husband is hanging a television at the top...ugh! Between the windows? The backlighting is going to be a pain to look at while watching dark shows. Please also be careful about curtains at those windows so close to the fireplace. 5. What color appliances? If budget allows, you can get "panel-ready" appliances and you can put in wood paneling. That could be great for a cozy cabin look. If budget is an issue, then I'd go with stainless steel, should match well with a rustic cabin feel.

It's not you - the walls work well with the tile but the circular area is definitely much warmer in tone. I think Beverly's idea of simply replacing with existing tile is best. You can always add a fun rug to coordinate to your current taste but a medallion can look dated after a time as other elements in your space change. Looking at your wall art and fireplace, if you go the medallion route, it should be understated and not fancy or fussy.

The beachy tile accent would drive me crazy too. Is the square floor tile available, or, perhaps, there’s some leftover. But I do like your smiling bear.

Apply a enhancer to the stone. It will completely change the overall appearance. Whether it's for the better is up to you. Not a designer and I don't play one on Houzz. Quick easy and inexpensive way to try an alternative before spending $$$.

Example - Same stone. Shower floor is a penetrating sealer. Mock up sample is a enhancer.

The walls are reinforcing the brown in the mosaic. If you tone down the brown in the walls you will tone down the colour in the flooring. I like the inlay. It gives the foyer a reason for being in that configuration. And the brick fireplace that is poking out of in pic #3 is IDENTICAL in colour to the inlay.

To me, the square tiles are the aberration not the mosaic.

Try an enhanced seal as above............and be prepared to rip it even then. When you mop.......does it look much darker/better for a minute or two? That's what you will get with an enhanced seal.

Nothing will make it "right" . Big deal......a circular entry. The walls defined it! and EVEN if you do something to call attention to the floor? That is too large and not well done. It's an example of why we say:

Design is editing.......: ) As in do you NEED it? Maybe not lol

You need "grandeur" To pull off grandeur. That most resembles the shower floor in a lake house. I'd have my sledge out soon.. I can say it would drive me nuts.

Jan is right...bottom line “you hate the tile”...do you want to make it look a little better with least amount of effort?...if not ...can you ...or do you want to ....match the surrounding tile perfectly?...the bottom line it is a poorly executed version of a very elegant concept..are there other acceptable ways to change it to a more “open foyer concept”?...can some of the columns be removed?
