Yellow paint color for apartment's living room. Please advice !
I am looking for mate warm yellow (mustard) paint color for the apartments living room. Somethig little brighter than yellow cream. But not too yellow. Room is facing south west. I have a balcony that almost prevent the sun from entering the room.
I have samples of Philadelphia Cream (BM), Macadamia (SW), Pale Honey (BEHR). Philadelphia Cream and Pale Honew are too pale. Macadamia looks very dark in my room.

Comments (39)Gia, I totally feel your pain! And, with the the same color (kinda). Purples have to be one of the hardest colors to get right...and I didn't get it right :( I don't know if all purples have such multiple personalities or what but I can stand in my room and see 4 or 5 different colors at once :o Some I like, some I don't. And I'm not in love with the color during the bright daylight. I AM in love with it (now) in the evening with warm lighting. DH told me we could repaint it. The thought of going thru all that paint selection again (and not getting it right, again), moving the furniture and now having to make sure the carpet was protected..yuck! If I'm not going to repaint, I'm going to have to accept it's not the "look" I was going for but I do like it. Just have to mentally change lanes. In my defense (and a precaution), the paint I used didn't get mixed like the paint sample I chose from. I chose my paint color from a Sherwin Williams paint from Lowes. It was also a SW color. The actual paint came from a SW store and was a different formula. It had more magenta in it. Could have also been the person mixing the paint. And I SO agree with aprilneverend's quote, "the muddier and less interesting the color looks on the chip-the better chance it has to turn to a good choice in the room". How I wish I had read that before I had my bedroom painted. In fact, she has a lot of good advice I wish I had read before painting. I also discovered the sheen makes a big difference. I used Lowe's samples which only came in satin. I was amazed at how that could change the look. I had to buy quart size cans to get the matte samples I wanted. I probably spent as much money on samples as I did paint. BTW, we used SW Emerald paint and love how thick and pigmented it is. Glides on the wall. I think it covered in one application but the painter wanted to do two. I like accent walls in certain applications and agree that a darker color works best for accent walls. I like the navy suggestion or an eggplant. I've never shown the new paint and carpet because it (paint) will look so different on everyone's screens and it's constantly changing colors during the day. The beautiful lamp is not really there YET. I have to sell an organ to afford it if Santa doesn't bring it. See? I told you I feel your pain! Comments (30)Can I also second getting a local color consultant to come to visit this very pretty home? I have also had tons of luck calling the SW color line (and its free!). They helped me out of a color jam a few years ago and just recently again. I painted my outside trim SW Fleur de Sel. It was a mistake. It can read very blue-gray. I was heartbroken but it was too late. Now I needed to paint my front door and it needed to coordinate with my reclaimed orange brick and now this odd trim color. My husband wanted a yellow and wanted to pick SW Sunny Day. I about cried. The SW phone line came to the rescue (with no pics nonetheless) and suggested Colonial Yellow. It looks fabulous. They have been so nice on the phone every time. Comments (109)I don’t have advice for yellow paint colors but had to mention that I recently saw a mini tour of bunny Williams country house on IG, and it is sooo lovely. She uses yellow and I thought the same thing — I need to find a place to put this color on my walls!!! Here is a pic of her walls that may be inspirational (or not lol — it is warmer deeper yellow I think than you were wanting but soo pretty!!) 3 years agoSW Macademia is more of a greenish kaki. Here are a couple more you might want to try, they are more of a golden yellow so not so much of a bright shade but not cream either.

3 years agoI think a lighter form of yellow would give you more open feeling in your space. Here are more ideas for you. I used Butter up and it is very pretty. Chiffon is lighter tone but also very nice.

3 years agoHere is Summer Harvest and Vellum next to Safari. As you can see they are a bit more lemony yellow but they are still creamy; not an intense yellow. Try both these looks in your room as lighting can effect how any color looks!

3 years agoThat’s not to say you can’t go bold if you really want to. My family room is a very deep Yellow/ gold. Not to everyone’s taste but you need to temper something like this with strong furnishings and art. Some people have a true dislike to yellow so best to keep it on the soft side!

3 years agoI think you can see here it already is on the orange side of yellow. Be careful about adding too much red/ orange you will end up with peach!

3 years agoBM straw is a very pretty color that I have used before, it has a definite orange/ yellow feel and is a brighter color. Traditional yellow is a brighter yellow. A “ cleaner” less complicated yellow, slightly warmer on the orange side although you won’t notice most likely. It is the brightest of all of these. I would say to get a sample of these if you like them and see them in your lighting. It’s impossible for any of us to tell as we are not in your space; only you can make that assessment! Here they are next to Safari if that helps.
