Need advice for living room paint color!
Comments (7)I probably wouldn't do red in there, but that's mostly because I just painted out the red kitchen, the berry red master bath, and the terra cotta hall bath in my own home. I'm into more grayed shades right now. I just used Behr Rope in my hall bath. It's kind of a grayed green but also reads blue where I put it in a bedroom. I'm doing Ben Moore Ashwood in my Master bedroom. I love it on the blog "For The Love of a House" in her living room and reading room. It's much paler than I usually like, but I'm in a paler frame of mind these days, especially when a not-in-your-face color is on the walls and windows and the furniture is darker or stands out more. I love your home, your contemporary furniture and the other colors you have chosen. You guys have great taste and will find something that works well in your living spaces. I'm not a huge fan of contemporary, but in your home, you've done it very well! Beautiful. Comments (3)I think the colors currently on the walls work fine. I might suggest however that you remove all the small understated wall and sparsely spaced pieces replacing larger more intentional ones for impact. If you opt to keep the art and pictures on the walls they need to come down to eye level height. Rather than painting entire walls you could paint the transitional walls like a bridge (the one by the stairs and the one by the front door). You could go with a latte, coral, grey, or gold. Good luck....See Moreneed help with my dining room color/ceiling color in living room
Comments (1)Are you saying light comes from the north until late in the day, or are you saying there is a window facing north and a window facing west.? The reason I ask is that light that enters from a north-facing window is bluer and lacks intensity. Subtle color is washed out to gray. The Inchyra Blue is very dark, looking more charcoal with a green tone to me. I would choose the Cooks Blue. Here is a comparison I put together of those two colors with some blues from your rug. While the actual colors may be off due to how color can vary from monitor to monitor Cooks Blue is brighter and won't fade as much in northern light. Also, having a brighter blue on the walls should bring out the blue in your rug. The only way to know how it looks in your room is to buy a sample and paint a board as you did for other colors. Keep in mind that the color temperature of light bulbs you use will also affect the colors of your walls and furnishings. Color Temperature is expressed as Kelvin but is not a measure of heat. Warm-white bulbs have a color temp of 2700K which is kind to skin tones but gives a yellow light. Daylight bulbs have color temperature of 5000K to 6500K, but are harsh to skin tones and emit a blue-white light. Both CFL and LED bulbs come in various color temperatures. I recommend you choose bulbs with color temperature between 3500K and 4500K for a more neutral result. HERE is a photo of how different K-value lighting affects the appearance of color. You might have to visit a lighting store or light bulb specialty store to find neutral white bulbs. As to ceiling colors, people seldom look up. Unless your light fixtures are dramatic or the ceiling color is distinct I doubt anyone will notice if two adjacent rooms have different ceiling colors as long as there is a Framed Passageway between them....See MoreNeed advice Boring living/dining room wall
Comments (14)you have a neutral background in both rooms that is quite monochromatic. both rooms need a punch. I see your quartz countertop on the peninsula that is gorgeous and adds a pop on the kitchen area.... consider a low, narrow, but long console for the dining room wall to help with storage and adding some accessories on the top to add some personality and personal flair. above the console I would suggest a large, bold piece of art that spans the length of the console. another option would be to replace two of your dining chairs that are closest to the wall with a long bench with a back on it with upholstery to add some texture. still add the bold art. in the living room, like the idea of a large photo gallery wall....See MoreRelated Professionals
