Comments (3)Pinetree is right. I grew up there and a trip through the Chiricahuas is always splendid. There are organ pipe cacti, and some rare birds as well as interesting conifers. The Mts. themselves are striking with foreboding rock formations. Cochise used those mountains as a hideout from the Cavalry and they had a devil of a time finding him. Comments (2)If you've already had your vacation by now, ignore this. Haven't been to RI, but have been to Ocean City on and off season, and not yet with kids (have a 2 year old). I'm trying to avoid ocean city until she's around 7. It is undoubtedly the "best beach for kids" because of 1) the wide beach 2) boardwalk and amusements 3) reasonably priced, etc. Not much culture there. But as mentioned, Assateague (remember Misty?) is a great place to teach ecology. But Ocean City can be a nightmare for parents--it's SOOOOOOOOOOOOO crowded during the summer season. And most of the amusements wouldn't amuse my 2 year old (and your 5 year old?). But I know I'll have to go there, during the season, when she's older 'cause it's the place to go if you live in the DC area with kids. If I were you, I'd go to RI and save Ocean City for a few years....See MoreSuggestions On Fixing Hole Dug By City.
Comments (9)>>Side question is it legal for the city to just come dig without permission? It depends. For me, yes--as long as the hole is in the easement. In my case, that's the first seven feet from the curb. Whether you have an easement or not, you'd have to call or check your deed. Unfortunately, the falling leaves say it's kind of late to do anything about this so I think that (for the most part) you're going to have to live with it through winter. If you can find any sod scraps you can replant those. Keep damp for at least two weeks (which should be easy in late October and November) until they re-root. With your remaining seed, you can dormant seed it before your first snowfall that's going to stick for a bit, or in February if snow doesn't materialize. Seed at new lawn rates. Feed the new sprouts well in spring (an exception to the rule in this instance), by preference organically with something like Milo which won't stress the young grass. Also feed about two feet around that damaged circle to encourage the (really very nice!) grass to spread and help refill the hole....See MoreHad to go to the big city for pumice and.....
Comments (20)I used to get scrubbed really hard with that soap if I was seen near poison ivy. I think it was supposed to keep you from blistering. They have ADDED MOISTURIZERS to it. what is the world coming too. I can smell my grand mums laundry room where they kept it. She had one of those washing machines that you had to put the clothes through a hand cranked ringer before hanging outside. I got scrubbed down till pink a lot in that room, dirty tomboy that I was....See More- 6 years ago
