Need Help Front House Landscaping Ideas (Photogallery Included)
Comments (9)Hi Homebound, replied to your post over in windows and followed your link over here. A lot of wonderful ideas here! Your original idea of what to do in the front sounds real good. I would keep the trees too, it is so rare to have two large trees nowadays. I cannot see where they are relative to the edge of your yard and sidewalk but if they are far enough to the middle of the yard, I would build a nice wood covered patio designed around the trees. In other words, when it is done, it will look like you trucked in the trees to complement the structure. A nice low picket fence or rod-iron or ranch style along the front marks a nice boundary and also provides security. If you need the grass for children, I would then plant low brush along fence line to prevent people from being able to just hop over. An alternative will be to convert some of the lawn into flower beds and install secluded seating areas. It is nice to have a place like this where you can just do as you please from scratch! Have fun!...See MoreI need ideas for a front of house sitting area please
Comments (0)Hello! I recently bought a house and I want to figure out something to do with the front of it. It faces the west. I am trying to do this on a budget perhaps, and it will be DIY. I thought about ripping out the bushes, and pouring concrete or laying brick/pavers in a decent spot that extends past where the bushes are now. It could be rounded out by a low retaining wall for looks? I could build a pergola up top for looks as well. Anyway, here is a pic of my house. What comes to mind when you see this as far as adding a cost-effective front sitting area?Do you have any pics of your ideas? Would it look too odd to do this to a house style like this? The black awnings are coming off btw. I don't want to add a new roof anywhere if possible. Thanks for any help! The first pic is my house. The others are just some that I found online, and only wood decks really. This front seating area could be a low wood deck, but I would imagine a concrete pad or brick/paver would be cheaper?...See MoreHELP! Need front of house landscaping ideas!
Comments (1)So just some thoughts... I would ditch the clematis for some sort of topiary bush. It would become a statement plant. Look at low bushes that are purple, red, yellow that are slow growing and don’t require a lot of trimming. I wouldn’t really add anymore green. Between the lawn and the house color, you need other colors. Also consider something spiked to add interest. Along the rail, just do a low border plant like liriope. It has white and green leaves and gets a purple bloom in summer. A local nursery can really help. They can even create a plan for you....See MoreFront of house makeover, help needed.
Comments (10)I'd pick a cool slate blue or a warm sage for the wood siding, depending on whether your brick is warmish or coolish. It's tough to recommend any ideas about landscaping, because your pic doesn't suggest much use. Do you need a sitting area? Is the house behind the trees yours (needing linkage) or your neighbors (needing hiding)? etc....See MoreAlexandra Stroh
