Haworthia ID Question

I bought a small plant I thought was a Haworthia cooperi but now I’m less sure. It’s a big clump unlike the rest of my haws, it’s growing but not ‘pupping’ like I expected. Lastly, the leaves are very very round, some pictures on google are round but some are much pointer. I know google images is unreliable for IDs but it’s making me even more unsure of what I have.

It looks like cooperi to me , but Haws aren’t really my thing. I say that, but why do I have like a dozen of them😉.

Cooperi is a popular Haworthia so there’s probably all sorts of variations and that’s why it’s hard to find one that looks just like yours. Haws can look super different in different growing conditions too. Here’s video of a guy repotting a really nice/chubby cooperi.

Looks like cooperi to me, too.

If you value that plant I'd suggest you get it out of that container.

Oh boy! Spotted Haws are tough, with several diff species & then all the varieties & forms! Do you know for a fact all of these have columnar growth habits? Seems to be true from the pix, but hard to tell sometimes. Col #1: Might be H. coarctata var. tenuis or H. coarctata v. coarctata Col #2: not sure Col #3: Might be H. coarctata fa. chalwinii Check out these species for spotted types: coarctata, kingiana, minima, pumila, reinwardtii Sorry I can't be more definite for you. :(

Grittier mix is a wonderful idea and the azalea pot that you mentioned would be a good idea though I wouldn't go more than an extra inch in width from what it's currently in. As for depth there are much more knowledgeable people here that can verify this (hopefully I'm correct in this assumption), but most Haworthia have a taproot and don't mind a slightly deeper pot. I don't think there is any specific rule to follow when deciding to separate or keep the clump together. It's more of a personal preference thing. If the babies have sufficient roots then they can be separated if you choose. Make sure you removed all of the old soil before repotting or the gritty mix won't drain as well as it should and you could end up killing your plant by accident assuming it's dry when it's not. Also, after repotting you may notice the plant can't immediately take as much light as you previously had it in. You may have to slowly introduce it back to brighter light. I think the drying times that you calculated with the pumice will be detrimental only if you water the plant/pumice while it is still wet. Beyond that, I think you may be over-thinking this and over-worrying. I get 1/8" pumice from General Pumice Products here in the U.S. I just sifted and washed a bucketful over the weekend. It is drying in big oil pans outside -- and right now, it's really cold here in SW Florida. I don't think it will be fully dry until Thursday, and that will be 5 days. Chris is right -- use unglazed terra cotta pots if you can. Even with pumice, they will remain lightweight. Haworthias in pumice shouldn't need to be watered more than once a week, unless you live in hot southern Florida in the summer. Even then, mine only get watered about every 5 days. You don't HAVE TO water a Haw the very minute its mix is dry. You can wait a day or so and it will be fine.

Thanks so much both of you! I know the terrarium is dangerous and I’ve been meaning to replant it but I’m all out of soil at the moment thanks to COVID so I’m watching it like crazy and really hoping nothing goes wrong!

Something IS going to go wrong if you leave it in that terrarium for very long, in my opinion. It's too much concentrated moisture and humidity for a Haw. I'm sure it's a cooperi of one type or another. Watching and hoping aren't going to save that beautiful plant, and it is a beauty. It needs fresh air and a graveling, grittier type of soil mix to grow in, more aeration, easier drainage.

Even if you reuse whatever soil or small pebbles are in there, in an ordinary SMALL clay or plastic pot w/ drainage holes, it'll be better that the open glass w/no drainage. I agree w/ those suggesting same above.
