Comments (5)Excess moisture can cause mould, etc., yes ... ... but how do you like the idea of possibly rotting walls, floor? Are you handy with hammer, saw, wrecking bar and chisel to chisel out rotted pieces at the joist, and cutting and installing new floor? Incuding under the bath tub? Just a thought. By the way - if you plug the outlet, including anywhere near the fan motor and have a fire, the insurance company could refuse to compensate. Do you know people in the construction business? Home inspection? Electrician? They'll know what you can do and what you can't. Good wishes as you seek to (wisely) cut your energy costs. ole joyful P.S. Comments (8)Merry Christmas - and thanks for your replies! :) I should probably explain that I have a very strong sense of smell - unnaturally strong - so this may be a smell that no one else notices. However, I have noticed weird smells coming from the sink overflow holes in 3 different houses. These were other people's homes, so I can't try the bleach trick to see if that fixes it. We live in a temporary rental house that was constructed 6 months ago, so the overflow holes haven't had a chance to start stinking quite yet. I primarily notice the smell when I bend down over the sink to brush my teeth or wash my face, but I've also smelled it when standing upright. It seems to happen mostly when the faucet is running, perhaps when the water pushes air out of the overflow hole (assuming that's possible). I've wondered the same thing about the cultured marble sinks - if code requires an overflow hole, why don't those sinks have one? We don't have kids, so I don't have to worry about them overflowing the sink. If the plumbing code absolutely requires an overflow hole, I believe there are overflow plugs I can purchase, but I'd rather just avoid the overflow hole to begin with. Comments (10)AhhHaa,if the jack was desighned for rubber shield,that might fit better than conventional metal collar. At any rate,the space between pipe and jack is normal because (A) The jack also work's for double wall pipe from gas water heater which is a little fatter and (B) The space alow's air space when single wall pipe is hot....See MoreBathroom sconces beside mirror? Comments (5)Thanks, Chispa. The ceiling fan was installed this week, so I can finally see in the bathroom. Here are pictures taken without flash. The black walls make it look darker, but when the drywall goes up, that will help. The floors, walls, shower tile, etc. will be light colored. Plus the shower is essentially open with two walls of glass. The toilet will be on the left corner where the towel is on the floor. The tub will go on the lower left where the missing tiles are. The two yellow circles represent where the lights will go above the vanity. There is not much room since the vanity is 48" wide. I could move the vanity to the wall on the right, but I believe the lights would not be bright enough to reach the door. If I put two lights with 100 watt bulbs on the toilet wall, the lights should reach the door. I guess I could put a double light on each side of the mirror, but I have not seen any pictures of double lights on each side of a mirror. The first is 18" wide and the second is 12" wide. That takes away space for the mirror which I need to reflect light. I would rather have a 36" mirror than a 24" mirror. It looks like a single light on each side of the mirror will have to do....See More
