Panel ready DW--European model better since it's flush--true?
Comments (9)"I am wondering if I should now eliminate the KA as a brand under consideration." Yes . It is much harder to to integrate a 3/4" thick panel to be flush with adjacent cabinetry on a KA. The toekick detail is also not as good , so it too detracts from the "hidden" illusion. 2. They are also not as robustly built as their miele and bosch counterparts. The Bosch units are easy to integrate and come with gaskets already attached to allow them to fit a 24" opening. The American units are larger - strictly speaking, but............................ you aren't going to be able to fit an xtra pot, or lasagna pan or salad bowl in them. Tehy just aren't that much larger. You MIGHT fit an xtra plate in one. Then again you might not, because the euro models tend to have more efficient racks....See MorePanel-ready DW--European model better because it's flush--true??
Comments (12)Thanks to all. My space is 24" x 24", and when looking at it I realize that my current KA does protrude. Since it is just a standard model, not a paneled, I don't mind that much. But, I can see how it might be an issue with the panel-ready. 1929 Spanish--Lovely kitchen! I assume your dishwasher is to the left of the sink under the pumpkin. You say it protrudes a bit, but I can't tell from this perspective. Out of curiosity, what does the side look like where you can see it? Kompy--Great kitchen design! I also looked at the Asko dishwashers today at the store and would love some feedback on the brand from you since you are on your third one. Do you know which model you have? Is it the one with the three racks inside? Is it a lower or mid or higher level model?...See MorePanel ready dishwasher or stainless steel?
Comments (21)I want to set straight the statement that Jakzof3's carpenter said about KA panel-ready dishwashers, for people who may be shopping for a panel-ready DW. It is NOT that KA dishwashers "are not as nice paneled". These sorts of blanket statements bother me (by the way, since it's paneled, doesn't how "nice" it is also depend on the panelling itself?). Anyway, the difference between KA dishwashers and Miele or Bosch is that the KA is about 1/2" deeper than the european dishwashers. It holds more than european dishwashers too--just bring some of your dishes and pans to a showroom, and you will see. But because the KA is slightly deeper, it will not be exactly flush with your base cabinetry if your base cabinetry is the standard 24" deep. This difference is not noticeable in a stainless steel door, but it would be noticeable if you are panelling the dishwasher to blend with your other cabinets. People on this forum have reported digging out the drywall behind the DW by 1/2" and getting the paneled door to be flush that way, or using a thinner panel, and making it flush that way. We bought the panel-ready Kitchenaid knowing in advance that it would be slightly deeper. The depth was no problem for us, because we were making our counters 3" deeper than standard, i.e. 27" not including counter overhang. We pulled the 24" deep base cabinets away from the wall by 3" to create the deeper counters (love them by the way--will never go back to 24" deep counters). So the slightly deeper panelled KA was no problem for us, and it sits flush with our cabinetry. The KA is as "nice" as other dishwashers we looked at. The Bosch and Miele are excellent, but for us, the Bosch seemed too small, and while we loved the Miele, we couldn't spend the $1200 more for it....See MoreWhat does an unpaneled, panel ready dishwasher look like?
Comments (10)lascatx and dilly_ny - I never even thought about that problem, but it does make sense, thanks! AngieDIY- That's a good reason for considering one with a recessed handle, how do you like it with the panel on it and the recessed handle, I guess the panel is everywhere but the top? Fori- Great Idea! Especially since we always have a holiday party and I know my husband would hate it unpaneled. Even though he won't like the the Ikea panel isn't the same as what our cabs are, it'll be better than the unpaneled piece. Pooppup - I agree, that would NOT work! Thank you for the pictures, it is very ugly. Partyof7- Thanks, I know it'll annoy my husband but I do most of the dishwasher stuff anyway....See Morelucky998877
