White (a bright white) might be boring, but it's really the best color because it helps your eye gauge your clothes colors. Put 2 navy blues against white and you can quickly see which is "navier" (all navy blues are not the same, nor are all blacks). Plus, once your clothes and shoes and other stuff are in place, those will be colors you see, not the white walls. Once you paint it a non-white color, you will always return to this subject whenever you repaint the bedroom color. So save yourself some time and effort. (Also, how big is the walk-in? I've seen some not-movie-star-size walk-ins in which the owner hung art high on a wall)

Mine is about 9x15. It's not only a walk in closet, but also my sewing room (counter with the window) and acts as a nursey currently as well. It's still in progress, with doors to be added to the boxes on the left side, and lighting to go in the glass door cabinets. All glass door cabinets on the right have bars (shirts, pants and skirts). To the back side it has a long storage area for ballgowns, fur coats, and other less used items. (I say that like I have 42 fur coats LOL I don't). Then there is a shelf that run around the entire room aside from the window wall which will house less used items. There are still a few trim pieces to install and rods, but to give an idea, here's a few pics. THe lighting is just for show during the inspection. It will be replaced with a gorgeous antique fixture. The walls are being done in venetian plaster. (Should be done this week). We stole the space for this closet from our master bedroom. It had been a sitting area. When we remodeled we took space for the closet (just built a simple wall) and added to the master bath by stealing the space in two linen closets we had filled with junk we didn't need. The room was huge before (658 sq ft) and is still good size, but the closet makes it SOOO much more functional. We also removed a silly soaker tub that was IN the bedroom and used that plumbing to add a stackable washer and dryer on the same floor (the other one is four levels down in the five level townhouse). Removing the tub gave us the sitting area we took for this closet. Obviously we could use a few knobs and pulls LOL but we'll get there! In fact, thank you for this question....because it reminds me to order them today!

Basics of closet design, if you see the wall behind, there is room to store vertically. Good news: There is a lot of unused space in the closet. A lot of potential. With a closet system, there will be so much more function & storage space. I have design closets for 15+ years. I suggest getting a local closet company for an estimate. Probably can send the layout & get 2-3 estimates. I prefer the hanging systems to keep the option of touching floor or not. That way, if I do not want to touch floor, things can still be store under hang if need be. Make sure the shelving is adjustable, because life adjusts & so does stuff. Make the shelving in the corner deeper. Avoid wire. Things fall through wire & it's just not as good for so many reasons. Watch out for long planks ordered online, I tried, but often the material would come in warped, damaged, etc. I also have done wood, getting the holes to make adjustable shelving is no fun. It was more of a pain & took too long & did not turn out as nice. That's why I prefer using local closet companies who provide the material. Hanging systems need to be secured into studs & there are general rules in widths, so shelving does not warp. I love well functional, adjustable closets. Once you have one, you'll just wish you had one sooner:) slat wall example of gadgets that would be useful to your particular items. or get some white shelving with hooks

I like the placement of the walk-in. It's convenient from both the bedroom and the bathroom but it is in neither. That's really great. You can do much better than hanging rods all along the perimeter though. Maybe shelves on the top and bottom walls and hanging rods on left and right walls if you need to hang that much. Or shelves on the top, hanging on the left, a chair in the bottom right corner with a bachelor's chest with a lamp on it and a mirror hanging above it by the door for storage of underwear and socks. I also like the toilet room at the front of the bathroom so you don't have to walk through the whole room every time you need to go. You'll access that about five times as often as the shower so that's a good choice. I would put the door on the short wall across from the toilet though. It makes no sense to have it open right where someone might be standing at the sink. And some of the convenience is lost by having to make a 90 degree turn to access it. Have it open out just in case. If someone falls or is crouched down getting sick, you'll want access. Two vanities is nice. All told this is the nicest ensuite-WIC layout I've seen posted.
