What should I do to try and save this aloe?!

Ive had it in this pot for about 2 years. She’s really heavy and it seems like the leaves are getting broken and bumpy. do I need to repot into a bigger pot? or repot in the same size pot with new soil? Any help is greatly appreciated. :)

No repotting into bigger pot pls.

In 2 years, plant should be bigger and/or have some pups. Does the whole pot feel heavy? Leaves seem to be water-logged. It looks like it is in soil that retains water, and there is possibility that it could be rotting.

If my plant, I would take it out of pot and get all soil off the roots. Take clear photo and post for us to see their condition.

Rina's right, doesn't need a larger pot at all.

Sorry, but looks like the soil is too water retentive & needs correcting.

Does that pot have a hole in it?

I would say it's a philodendron, one of the 'pink lady' varieties. It does look kind of like a peace lily (spath), but those don't have aerial roots, which a see a couple of, and also what appear to be stems. First thing is to hydrate - it's severely wilted. Take the whole thing, pot and all (remove the drainage saucer if you can), and dunk it into the sink or tub filled with hot water. Hot water works very well to quickly revive over-dry plants. And I mean really hot, as hot as your hands can stand. Let it soak for a couple of hours, then let it drain for a couple more. You can cut off the dead brown parts now, if you want - you can tell the dead parts, they'll be crispy. I wouldn't do anything else to it until it has recovered from the shock of being in a desert for who knows how long. It should start to stand back up, at least many of the leaves should, though you'll probably have a number of leaves that will turn yellow and ugly. You can cut these off, they will eventually become crispy anyway. When you cut them, cut the leaf stem from the main stem flush with the main stem. At this point, you can go ahead and repot according to the number of good suggestions to be found on this forum, or ask again for more help with repotting

They'll grow as fast or as slow as you allow them to. If you want the plant narrower, cut the bottom-most leaves (if that's something you don't find aesthetically displeasing. A mature Aloe vera will be about 3' tall and about as wide. If you want it to grow smaller, I'd suggest getting rid of it and getting a miniature aloe. You could start over with the pup, which is fine, since you already know what the end result will be (it will get too large and you'll have to do the same thing) but you'll have the fun of growing them up (and perhaps giving the mature one to a friend who does have the space).

Haworthia have deep roots. When planted in shallower than ideal containers, they are more likely to lose roots which leads to eventual rot because the soil stays moist without roots absorbing the moisture. There are many things to consider if you want to be successful with succulents but IMO, if you can't manage the root zone then nothing else matters. It's hard to find deep and narrow clay pots, but square plastic pots are available. There is plenty of info about how to make a good soil mix on this forum. Repot your plant, remove any diseased parts (brown or soft growth) and with a little luck, new sprouts can form from the existing roots assuming they are in decent shape.

I would wait to do any repotting until the spring or early summer just to be safe. The warmer temperatures will make for much better conditions for new root and plant growth. I do grow my Hoya DS-70 in a clay pot and it does just fine but it is watered almost every day, still clay is best used for species that like to dry out vs the moisture lovers. Having temperature drops at night are good for plants, many bloom in response to these types of conditions. The temperatures you mentioned are not ideal but they are not low enough to cause problems. If you are concerned about fertilizing then I would suggest waiting for the most favorable conditions. On a nice sunny day water the plants and then apply your fertilizer solution. This is the best approach when it comes to watering any plant that is sensitive to water during the winter. Mike

Pot does have a hole in it. The aloe was a gift so it’s definitely possible that the soil isn’t correct. I think I’m going to repot it in the same pot but with a better soil that allows for more drainage? Will look up the correct mix for aloe

Well draining mix is what you need for any succulents. I tried to help by suggesting you take plant out of that soil...it could be rotting in it. Leaves should be self-supporting and erect, not floppy and soft.

Pls don't decide on pot size yet, that's dependent on how big the roots are. Judging from the look of the plant, the roots aren't going to be big & won't need it.

More importantly, pls follow Rina's suggestion, she does know her stuff. Pls show us the cleaned off roots first, otherwise, your efforts maybe wasted, sorry.
