Can you post a sketch of the floor plan with dimensions? That would be helpful. What is the opening over the sofa? Is that to the kitchen? Am I to understand correctly that you want a dining space as well as living space in this room? I think it's a grand space and can yield a fabulous room. I think those sofa's can stay and I love the rug.

I'm so glad I found this forum! You ladies are wonderful. I'm going to make some of the changes today (along with cleaning house, lol) and I'll post another picture later to show the progress. My son helped me build this little house (632 square feet) after my husband died about 5 years ago. I have decorated, undecorated, changed colors, and literally worked myself into a frenzy the past year trying to get it "right". I'm a thrift store, g/sale junkie and have accumulated so many decorating things (throw pillows, curtains, pictures etc) that will not work, and it's time to clear them out, and start anew. I really appreciate your help and suggestions, they're helping so much! And Barb, the curtains have always been a mystery with me. I've never been able to get the right look. Your ideas are really good, but I think I'm going to wait until I get the furniture, etc rearranged and step back and see how it looks, before making a decision. I live alone, a very casual lifestyle, the house being a little wood cabin style on the edge of the woods. I actually like the open look at the windows so I can see the trees, squirrels, etc, so don't want to get it very formal, if that makes sense, lol. I saw some wheat colored simple long linen panels at our newly opened "Dirt Cheap" store last week that interested me. I'd like something I can pull back during the day to let in the woodsy view. Just some thoughts to ponder. I have the black loop clips to match the black rods (somewhere, lol) Again, thank you all! And I'll report back soon as I make some changes. Jo Ann

I agree with Cawaps. Your choices are lovely and would look good, but I wouldn't call it a "farmhouse" style at all. Most of the farmhouses I have been to, (I live in a rural area) have huge old overstuffed furniture, emphasis "colonial." Comfy but hardly chic. But that is purely semantics, I love your choices so go for it. However, I too have a tiny living room and I don't have a center coffee table, and do not miss it. One of my chairs has an ottoman which I could put a tray on, but never do. I keep my books in a basket next to the chair and my magazines in a basketweave tray with sides under the couch. I have some collapseable TV trays I could set up if I ever wanted to serve any food in there, but since my living room is next to the dining room, that's not likely. I have side tables for the inevitable cup of tea or wine. Get a gorgeous rug to "tie the room together" and use the side tables and get some kind of ottoman for the chair. You can get ones that open up for storage too, they are great!

Do you own or is this a rental? The pix look a little stretched like realty ones. Since there is a rad between the doors, forget putting TV there. I'd keep the dining close to the kitchen and put the sitting/TV area to focus on the long wall. Start with the fun project of finding a knockout chandelier to hang from that pretty ceiling. Is there a fridge under the microwave? I see only one wall outlet behind the door and one above the counter, so you'll have to use extension cords and cord covers along the baseboards to have enough lighting here. Consider floating your sofa facing the long wall and TV. Then use a drop leaf table behind it for dining. You'll be able to open it all the way for entertaining. Anchor your seating area with a rug 2-3 feet wider than your sofa.
