Please help me decide on this table...your always so helpful!!
Comments (9)Light oak would't be my first choice. It does tend to look a bit country, but if you like it and think it'll work with what you have, you should do what you want. Since you're recovering the chairs, it might be just as cost effective to purchase new chairs in a wood tone that you prefer. I think the table size depends on your space. When I was single, I had a small table (30 x 50-It's now DH's desk.) in a small apartment. Most of the time it was pushed up against the wall with chairs at the ends and two chairs along the long side. It could be pulled away from the wall to accomodate six, but it was a tight fit! My current kitchen table is 34 x 55 but has leaves to make it longer. It's narrower than my last table (43.5 x 55 - a drop leaf that is now in the living room.) but suits us fine. I can fit dinner plates on the table without removing my large bowl centerpiece. I don't think I could fit everything if it was 32 inches. Maybe you could map out the dimensions of the new table onto the old table with painters tape to see if it works for the way you usually set the table....See MorePlease help me with my dated brick ranch
Comments (49)Sherry, I know! the brick no longer looks orange and weird to me. We didn't even consider painting the brick. We bought a four-sides brick house so it would be lower maintenance. The trim painting really did the trick as far as making the brick, porch, and roof all blend together better. It really is surprising how just changing that one color seemed to change all of the different colors....See MoreRound table or trestle table? Will you all please help me decide?
Comments (3)The practical limitation on a round table is 60" or 5 feet diameter. After that, you can't pass food or dishes across the table. Unless you put a lazy susan in the middle of the table, that can be a real drawback. Also, large round tables are (in my opinion) are very inefficient in space/seating and will "push out" taking most the space in the room. Good luck in your decisions. Comments (24)Rachel M. Frazier - Whew - I've been second guessing myself so badly. Thanks for affirming my choices. I keep scrolling back to all the comments about going with a white counter on the perimeter and the picture you posted. And while it's actually almond in color, not white, I'm thinking maybe I can get the same effect using the same principles applied for white. I wasn't planning to change the base color of the island - should I be? And I'm planning to keep the island counter the same as the perimeter. I can't see myself giving a wood counter the proper care it'd need over time. Do you think I'll need to swap hardware? It's currently a satin nickel color? Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. I just want to update it! In the next few weeks, the BS will be removed, Silken Pearl installed as well as a new undermounted sink and faucet. I keep telling myself, one step at a time - all the while wanting all the pieces of this puzzle put together before I start. So many details! I sure appreciate the help!...See More- 3 years agolast modified: 3 years ago
