Bouquets of no-spray roses
Comments (305)James Galway gets over 20 feet tall in late fall as 7th-year-own-root in my zone 5a. James' Blooms has amazing carnation scent when aged in the vase. It lasts 5+ days in the vase. Below bouquet was taken mid-July, showing pink Comte de Chambord, and bright-red L.D. Braithwaite at center (lasts long in the vase, but not much scent). Left yellow is Golden Celebration (form is bad in hot & dry). Dark reds are W.S. 2000, it's a continuous bloomer as 12th-year-own-root. Lavender Crush is good for the vase, it used to be deep ugly purple, I don't like the color so I dug out the top 1 foot of clay and mixed pelletized lime to soften the color, and it has been 100% healthy with zero blackspots, plus the color is lighter & prettier: Below pic. showing Lavender Crush with zero blackspots as 7th-year grafted-on-Dr.Huey. Pic. taken this August 11, 2022. It's over 5 feet tall and blooms at the top:...See MoreElderberries have no berries
Comments (74)i have 5 s. canadensis of bob gordon and wylewood cultivars and 3 s. nigra black lace and black beauty cultivars. i put in the s. canadensis 2 yrs ago and the s. nigra last year. this year my s. canadensis has huge flower cymes but as the flowers fall there are only a few green berries forming. also i haven't seen any bees on them either but my raspberries 40ft. away are full of bumble bees. do bumble bees pollinate elderberry? I've seen them in my blueberries and currants before. maybe i have to wait till next year for a big crop. any ideas? for 2 years growth these elderberry bushes are huge! nearly 7ft. tall and the cymes are 12 to 14in. across! they are in poor rocky clay soil only amended with a handful or so of worm castings and some peat! unreal how vigorous they are!...See MoreSambucus "Lemony Lace"
Comments (0)I was at the Canadian Tire in Cochrane today and saw this lovely new Sambucus called "Lemony Lace". It was only in a 2 gallon pot, but it was absolutely gorgeous. Mind you, it looked very much like my Sambucus "Morden Golden Glow". When I did an internet search on this, the photos were just like the Morden Golden Glow. I am wondering if anyone knows anything about this Lemony Lace? What's the difference between this Sambucus and Morden Golden Glow please? I absolutely love my Morden Golden Glow as it is not only gorgeous, but it also is extremely hardy too - winter after winter, it barely has any dieback of the branches, and it's one of the earliest shrubs to leaf out too. I just love it! If the Lemony Lace is anything like it, it will be a huge success!...See MoreRoses that you want a 2nd one versus less of?
Comments (102)I have 3 MW that I don't really prune. Mine are maybe 3-5 ft so far. My Purple Lodge is shorter and maybe 2.5 ft. I agree that I thought PL would be larger. I'll look on HMF to see if there are any huge ones. HMF says 31 in to 39 inch height and 20 in to 28 inch wide for PL. I don't know how I thought it was larger. It really is more Floribunda than Shrub rose I think....See MoreThe Plant Lady : Native Landscape Design
