Comments (4)'Little Henry' Virginia Sweetspire (Itea virginica) is a 2 to 3 ft shrub that may do well there with occasional watering. Ours needs little beyond the lawn over-spray, but is in fairly dense shade during the hottest days. Leaves are a lighter shade of green for most of the year that should look good against the dark brick and it has many white flowers in spring. Semi-evergreen in Dallas. The orange/red leaf colors in late fall and winter are very nice, and should probably still look okay against the dark maroon. May depend on how fierce the temps get near the dark brick wall during 2 or 3 hours of late afternoon summer sun; could limit the spot to really tough plants like the hollies. Here is a link that might be useful: Itea virginica - Little Henry...See MoreWelcoming any suggestions to sort out the front of our house
Comments (5)I would have the same criticisms of this area in that where pedestrian circulation occurs, the space is pinched tight with plants and pots. When trying to invite someone in, you must give them space, so widening the path by uncluttering would be helpful. Also, it would be helpful to physically widen the walkway, if that's a possibility. Other than that, generally speaking, there are too many small things. It would be better to have fewer, larger things. This means getting rid of the smallest, least important things and taking what's most meaningful and letting it become more dominant/larger. This includes the stone wall which, in general, reads as bit crumbly. It would be better if it had less length and more substance. I'm not sure what the large plant just right of the porch is, but it should read more tree-like than shrub-like. Regardless of what it is, it should be limbed up with distinct separation between it and shrubs below....See MoreHow can we update this? Any suggestions? It’s asymmetrical - hall 2 rt
Comments (9)IMO those cabinets and that FP do not belong on the same wall and honestly without seeing the rest of the floor plan I have no idea what is worth spending money on. The lighting and the flooring are definate turnoffs for me. I have no idea of your style and IMO the stone on the FP is the only thing I would not touch in the space but a new mantel would be in order. This is a one space in what appears to be a large home how much do you love it ? If this space is the only one needing help maybe but I am betting the rest is also in need and that can starting spending $$$$$$ to get what you want. You need to decide if this is worth it....See Morekitchen facelift ideas, suggestions welcome!
Comments (11)I would definitely remove the microwave and do a vent there. Not sure I’d put the microwave in place of the oven though. I’d probably put in in the island. Or a cabinet. What’s that white closet door? Pantry? Can we blow that out? And enlarge the entry to the DR? or can we replace with matching cabinets? Do you want a walk in pantry? Do you want to remove the entire wall - fridge, and bar area included for a more open feel? Also thinking maybe we can do some glass fronts on some of the cabinets. To add a more airy feel. These kinds of projects get expensive VERY quickly. My advice is to think this through, make some organized lists. Have a set budget and plan to do this right the first time round. If it means waiting until you can rework some of the layout and customize some finishes that’s the route I’d go for a space with such potential! Good luck!!...See Moredecoenthusiaste
