Can I install two large single bowl sinks side by side?
Comments (22)You can install two separate sinks in a countertop. In fact, in the old days, before double-bowl sins were invented, the only way to have a double sink was to install two, and sometimes three, sinks side by side. They were not common in homes but often used in restaurants and hotels. A couple of issues: The narrow countertop strip between the sinks is not strong enough to support the weight of the sinks + water, and will need to be strengthened. You will need a single cabinet wide enough for the two sinks -- at least 48" or possibly wider for the size of the sinks you are talking about, or two cabinets. Two cabinets is often not as good a choice since the sinks cannot be installed as close together. The countertop strip between the sinking will get a lot of wear, more so that the rest of the countertop, and will show the wear much sooner. You can take two ordinary stainless sinks and have them welded together by a stainless steel fabricator. Once they are re-polished, you cannot see the seam. In fact, when double bowl sinks are made at the factory, they start as two separate sinks that are then joined, welded and polished. If you live in or near a fairly large town, you probably have one or more stainless fabricators locally -- you know, the guy that makes restaurant countertops and fixtures for the local jail. It will ordinarily be a lot cheaper to join two good 18/8 or 18/10 stainless single sinks bought at Home Depot than to have one large double sink custom made. The quality would be the same, especially since the custom fabricator is probably just going to join together two single sinks he bought at Home Depot and smile when he hands you the bill....See MoreWhich diswashers? Comments (7)We did one panel dishwasher and one non-paneled dishwasher. I like the arrangement. However, I think a dishwasher on either side would have had its pros as well (more space on both sides of the sink for example.) It does not look awkward at all. I think the key was having one be a paneled DW (Bosch was what we bought for paneled.)...See Moretwo all fridges side by side in kitchen
Comments (6)This is something another person on a different forum shared with me. They have the two all fridges. We have seven kids at home and eat mostly fresh foods. We have one big fridge now and are often overfilling it to the point that it’s working too hard and freezing the back 1/3 of the fridge’s contents. It’s happened with our last couple of fridges. Our eldest (child number 8), wife and granddaughter live nearby and come home regularly for meals. We will likely have a large gathering at our house at least weekly for the foreseeable future as our family expands (in-laws, friends brought home, grandkids, and dare I say, our own friends? 😄). That being said, we are debating on one big all fridge and a couple of drawer u it’s vs the two all fridges, but we have three kids in wheelchairs and they seem to find the counter depth fridges easier to access vs lifting out of the the drawer units....See MoreHelp. Comments (12)Thanks live_wire_oak. It is certainly stressing me out. We are looking at buying steel supports sort of like the kind you buy for bar seating counter extension. There are several points to anchor the steel to. We have extra height to play with as the design was for the dishwashers to be elevated a few inches. I know this is not conventional, but we are looking everywhere for a solution that will prevent the need of taking down the half wall (it has lots of electrical in it as well), or having to change our plan at this late stage after cabinets have been ordered and installed and hardwood installed. We will do the former before the latter, but both are a big set back. I would far rather throw money at thinner steel supports. A solution for fastening the anti-tip brackets has been found (see video) as well as we can screw one bracket into the side wall or side cabinet for each dw. We just have to design support for the quartz countertop. The countertop guy said today: "this is totally doable with steel supports", (so that is one vote that a solution can be found). Here are a few links, videos, etc. that we are looking at for anyone who encounters this problem in the future. We found lots of other steel bracket companies, aside from the first one linked below.
