Two 24' kitchen sinks side by side
Comments (22)Judy, Here's my 2 bits worth from another dish drainer person! I always had a huge dish drainer (so big that it was fairly difficult to 'hide it' under the sink when I knew company was coming). In fact, my original plans for my kitchen included getting runnels as I just assumed I'd have the dish drainer on the counter (though maybe upgraded to a 'prettier' one) in the new kitchen. But, with my new bigger, deeper sink ( I have 2/3, 1/3- 10" deep with granite), I hand wash in the bigger one and keep a new smaller dish drainer in the smaller sink. Huge huge improvement in how my kitchen looks, and because the DD is smaller, I put the dishes away sooner. Also, with a new tall tub DW I can fit more dishes/pots in there, so don't have to hand wash quite so many things. I think some people are not hand washers, don't know how that can be :>), but when I talked to my Mom about runnels, she had no idea what I was talking about, and when I explained, had no idea why I would need them! :>) So, different things for different folks. But, I would guess that I would be like Cleo, if I had more space for dishes to dry in, it would just be filled up with more dishes. I really really prefer my new setup, with enough room to put those few things I have to dry, but small enough that it forces me to put things away sooner. (AND, being in the sink, hidden from view) No more ugly plastic drainer on the counter- no need for runnels (which are expensive!!) Yeah!...See MoreTwo sinks, side-by-side
Comments (5)I think it would only be worthwhile if you have a large kitchen, and frequently have 2 people at the sink. Or frequent large parties/entertaining, perhaps frequent catering. I cannot see that it would be worth taking up kitchen real estate with 2 sinks and 2 faucets if typically only one person at a time will be standing at the sink. I suppose you'd need two disposals too. Also, I think cleaning one sink is just enough work--I wouldn't want to have to clean two, but that's just me....See MoreShould I have side by side SINKS?
Comments (8)Thanks Everybody, @annz 8: As I said, I can't tie into any drainage without jackhammering mess and a cost of about $6000, or $4500, no jackhammering, with a pump and a vent up to the attic which sounds complicated and likely to fail...But I am heeding your words and will be keeping at least some space to the right of the sink for wet veggies! (And looking into above-sink hanging dish racks so can also use counter on top of dishwasher. @Jackfre: Thanks so much for the suggestion of the big sink with another faucet. I think that's what I will do. What do you think of an independent sprayer at the other end rather than a whole faucet? (And set the main faucet over the way you suggested?) I will also have a filtered water spout at the far end with glasses above on open shelf and a toe kick so peeps can stand sideways at the end of counter and get a drink without going in front of sink. It will only be a reach of about 18" (reserved counter space I get with a 36" undermount farm sink) to get a drink. @ineffable: Thanks! I am also looking at divided sinks but I haven't seen that one, I will look at it and the two faucet possibility....See MoreBlanco diamond sink ..large single bowl.
Comments (10)I'm reposting my response to your recently asking the same question in an older thread: I don't know if there's such a thing as a sink that's too big, but a sink can definitely be too deep, depending on what kinds of tasks you'll be using it for. Will this be a cleaning sink as well as prep sink? In order to avoid leaning in and over as much as possible, two dimensions are important to get right: 1 - the sink needs to be placed as close as possible to the front edge of the counter (i.e., close to you). This is the one real functional advantage of an apron design. For under and overmount sinks, it's still worth getting clear with the counter and cabinet and plumbing people ahead of time what the minimum distance with your setup can be, and going with that. 2 - the base of the sink needs to be high enough that pots and pans resting on it don't force you to lean over much to wash them. A grid in the base of the sink can help, moving things an inch closer. The sink base can also be moved closer by overmounting the sink, and/or by raising the overall height of the counter. But you put yourself behind before you start with a ten-inch-deep sink, and the effect is worse if it's undermounted to a thick counter. The sink is the most-used appliance in the kitchen. It's worth taking the time to make sure it will be as comfortable as possible for the kinds of work you'll be doing at it. My white Silgranit Diamond super single is overmounted, and has a grid, and I keep a small plastic tub in the cabinet beneath, on which I set pots that need scrubbing to bring them to a more comfortable level. I'd have been thrilled if the same sink were available an inch or two shallower....See Moresilken1
