why does my dog step on my foot
Comments (18)Mac, if you had a 2 year old malamute that thought he was boss, I'm surprized you only rolled him once! Good for you for chomping his muzzle! I chomped my wolf female's throat more than once in her early years. But this male is different. He is extremely mouthy, and has been since day one. He is far too brazen, far to fast to challenge, he has looked me in the eye and growled when I have verbally corrected him. This has only happened a couple of times but, I cannot let him take an inch. I can see a lot of trouble in the future if I let up on him even for a minute. I can see him weighing his options when I give a command. I don't like the hesitation. He is an extremely intelligent problem solver and was born to lead the pack, and he knows it. I will be so glad when he hits 18 months to 2 years. Hi Premier, My mals stand about 5 feet tall when standing on their back legs, they currently weight 80 to 90 pounds each, at maturity they will be 100 lbs + and have the ability to pull 30 times their body weight. They can jump a 6 foot fence with only a few steps lead. They can pick up and carry 40 pound objects for several hundred feet with no effort. They are highly intelligent animals with problem solving abilities. They do not experience fear (usually)and they don't usually give second chances to their opponents. They are magnificent!!! No other dog can come close to their abilities imho. But, all of these traits put together make an extremely powerful and potentially dangerous animal. Malamutes do not guard property. They guard people and resources. What is minor agression right now for this male, if left unchecked will become a serious problem. (Even trivial domination such as foot stomping cannot be tolerated.) Growling when challenged and commanded (me), growling and snapping when coming too near his food dish (dh), and growling when coming between him and the female (dh) are his current transgressions. I consider these agressive actions that must be immediately and strongly dealt with. His growl is not benign. I recognize the different growl timbers because of my other dog. My other dog had several different growls, and I knew the difference between them. She could clear a whole exam room of techs with a lip curl (to show off those nice long curved fangs, lol)and a single growl. (She could growl on command and a k9 cop friend declared her growl the nastiest he had ever heard.) Mals are wonderful friendly dogs to beneign strangers. But an animal that wants desparately to be the pack leader can be dangerous to the pack members (family members). The only aggression that I allowed in my previous dog was my personal protection. She did not allow anyone to touch me. I work from my home and have customers come to my house. I always felt totally safe with her nearby. I miss her terribly. This male was born the day she passed away. He was born 3 hours after her death. I had so hoped she was returning to me, but it doesn't appear so. This male chose me, I was interviewing the litter and he kept climbing up on me over and over again. Perhaps I want too much of him too fast. That's my vets opinion. I love malamutes dearly but they are not for wimps. lol...See MoreWhat A Day This Has Been
Comments (10)Oh, see my plumber screwed up my eco toilets. I told him they have a strict 12" rough in and he calls my contractor telling him that I got these crazy wall mounted toilets (??). Umm, no. They have a strict 12" rough in that makes the tank, etc. flush with the wall. So no, you cannot run the water line directly behind the toilet. So Genius Plumber, instead of reading the Kohler install guide, just takes the template and jacks it 3" off the wall so that I can "reach back there for the water line." Umm, and how am I supposed to clean a 2.5" space behind the toilet? The waterline is supposed to be fed through a port on the side of the toilet with a fancy little stainless hole cover. Which the plumber then THREW OUT because he didn't know what it did. So now my toilets are all sicking out of their carefully designed hidey-holes and my marble floors are all drilled. And best of all, my water saving eco toilets run constantly because Genius Plumber had never installed dual flush toilets, so I have to keep the lids off until I want to use one. I swear I'm not sure if it's good or bad to know more than these jokers do. I think I would be more accepting if I were stupider. Herding cats. Seriously. And after all the problems he had at my place, I can't believe my contractor is going to use him on a bathroom designed by a husband and wife architect team that have never heard the term "standard plumbing fixture."...See MoreRunning AC in "dry" mode only
Comments (34)Removing humidity via central air conditioner, minisplit, window unit, portable a/c unit with an exhaust hose, or standalone portable dehumidifier all involve refrigeration and cooling ... humid room air is pulled across a cold evaporator coil to entice the moisture to condense onto the surface of the coil ... like "sweat" on a cold soda can or glass of iced tea, etc. ... which is collected and drained away. Slow airflow rate promotes the moisture condensation. A Friedrich (rebadged LG) window unit at work has a Dry setting ... which sets the fan to low speed and automatic-cycling mode (vs. the fan blowing continuously). It can't be changed to any other speed on Dry. Regular Cool mode has three speeds and option of automatic or continuous fan. The thermostat continues to function to control the set room temperature on Dry, there's no evidence that it cools lower than the setpoint. Other units or systems may skew the thermostat a bit so that they can cool to a lower temp in an attempt to run longer and remove more moisture. My parents' Lennox central system with humidistat/humidity control does that ... there's a set-up option on the high-tech thermostat to specify how many °F below the setpoint it can cool in an attempt to reach the target humidity level. Mom mentioned a few months ago that they set it on 76°F but it sometimes cools to 74°F and dad gets cold. They had the humidity set on 45%, and I found the 2°F overcool in the setup menu. I explained to her why 74°F happens, she said "I don't understand what that means." I raised the humidity setting to 52% (but didn't change the overcool allowance since humidity is a concern on the TX coast). A standalone dehumidifier doesn't effectively cool the area because they don't exhaust the heat outdoors ... the cooled/dehumidified airflow is blown across the warm condensor coil inside the room space which rewarms it. The room temperature can increase because the compressor operation adds some heat. Central a/c systems, minisplits, window units, and portables with an exhaust hose don't work that way, they always cool the room ... except Patrick Pelletier on July 9 2020 above says his portable unit instructs to remove the exhaust hose so the warm exhaust air blows into the room instead of outdoors, which effectively turns it into a standalone dehumidifier-type of unit. Lower humidity feels cooler to the occupants because moisture/sweat evaporates off the skin much more readily for a cooling effect....See MoreThe price has been dropping on this dresser
Comments (30)The price is whatever you thnk it is worth to you as a functional piece of furniture that you compare to other furniture you might need. It has no special value just because it is old because the market for brown furniture of any style is very weak. No one wants it and there is a glut in the market as boomers die or down size. Because it is sturdy, many pieces are still around and so they aren’t rare. I couldn’t sell any of my beautiful vintage stuff and so I gave it away because I preferred gifting it to selling it for pennies and dealing with the hassle of selling. FWIW bargaining is not scamming. The scam on Craigslist is that if you are selling a relatively expensive item, people will offer to purchase it sight unseen with some story about a friend picking it up. There are others but this is the one that happened to me when I attempted to sell a relatively expensive MCM piece. I immediately got several of these and they just didn’t seem right and when I googled, the scam was explained So anyone selling firmiture or other higher priced items is going to be deluged with scammers almost immediately....See MoreBruce in Northern Virginia
