front door color ideas

I am getting ready to replace my front door and am having trouble making a decision on the color scheme I want to use. my house currently has yellow siding and white shutters. I'm thinking of putting in a door with oval glass and 3/4 sidelights. was thinking of possibly doing an oak finish but not sure what color to paint the shutters if I did that. I could also go with a door that doesn't have the oak finish and just paint it and paint the shutters the same color as the door. I'm torn on what color to go for if I went that route though. I would so greatly appreciate any feedback/suggestions anyone has for a color that would look nice. Thanks!

Don't put an oval window in the front door replacement. The oval window is a victorian door style. Looking at this closely cropped photo of your front door area, I don't see a Victorian house. The door style you have now is appropriately Colonial as far as I can tell from the small photo.

Are you changing the color of the door because you want something new?

It would be helpful to see the entire house front so we can see what you see.

Hey, Apple, I have no idea what those flowers are. Go to a local horticulturalist and show her the photo or describe it and get recommendations for something that looks like them that will thrive in your area. Painting the steps the same color as the house with white risers would be fine.

After reading the advice and thinking about it more, I will paint the new door black. I checked out the green using photo shop and it doesn't look right to me without any other green on the house and not different enough (like red) to look good. Thanks for the help, it is much easier to paint before it's hung! Landscaping is down the road once we recover from the initial move in costs :) Here was the photo shopped green... It just doesn't work for me.

You have full view glass doors with verticals. I don’t understand what you are asking. There its nothing to paint. You could try window decals. You could change the verticals and do a woven fabric from Hunter Douglas. Lots of textures and colors are available. This woven is called Neptune. It would work with the exterior door frame, close to the color deco suggested.

Why are you getting a new front door? You can paint the door you have a nice colonial blue. Not a fan of the shutters, but what a nice big house!!

Thank you for the compliment! The door has a lot of dents /damage from a hail storm, thank you for the suggestion on color, do you think matching the door and shutter color is a good idea?

I think the shutters and the front door shouldn't match.

If you paint the shutters a contrasting color - like black or even a gray or charcoal they will look better IMO. The hardware on each shutter adds to the illusion that they are functional too :)

You have a fabulous home! Your entry is great and really works with the style of home you have. I agree with the paint suggestions of a blue or blue-grey. One additional item you could do is to swap out your sidelights and add glass to your existing door. Here's some mock-ups of what that would look like (we took a bit of liberty in changing your door hardware too!). Good luck on your entry project!

Hi Ms.Kate! Well, we just swung for the fences and picked a blue/grey in Photoshop. We didn't start with a paint swatch. If you take the photo to your fav paint shop, I bet they can get close to what we mocked up for you! Glad you liked it!!
