Decor/color ideas for Kitchen Update

Just updated my kitchen and could use decor/ color ideas to bring in. I’m not using the current chairs pads in the photo. There is wall space above the cabinets to the ceiling that I I have no idea what goes there. I am getting a new stove (stainless steel & black and a microwave which will be installed above the stove. I have no clue and would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks

A fun and happy piece of art above the table would liven the place up. I think the scones are too small. Consider new lighting.

Nothing above the cabinets. I agree a piece of art, or a collage of art would be great on that wall... not sure what purpose the sconces serve. New chair pads can be purchased at so many home stores... Bed Bath & Beyond comes to mind... save up those 20% coupons.

I'd take a trip to a fabric store and hunt up some large graphic fabrics to stretch over some stretcher bars. That would add in some badly needed color and let you scale the size appropriately to the space. Your accessories are too small and even though there aren't many, appear cluttered because they are the wrong scale. You need LARGE scale object. Work on your craft skills and do a giant paper mache vase to go with the fabric panels. Maybe a large sculpture. Nothing under 24" in height needs to go up there. And you don't need a lot of items to make a big impact when you use large scale objects.

In our cabinet corner, we have our Jura Capresso F9 coffee/espresso/cappuchino machine. Between our prep sink and range we have a large Boos cutting board, a salt pig and pepper grinder. So, I don't really want to give up space for decor in the work zones. On the island, we have a carved wooden elongated bowl that is currently filled with real gourds, colorful winter squash, and little pumpkins. Behind the sink on the granite shelf that goes into the window bump-out, I have 3 pottery pieces from the same local potter. I keep my cookbooks in an antique bookcase (glass front pie safe) that belonged to my grandfather. On top of it, I have 3 "vessels" collected on my travels -- a teapot from Russia; a teapot from a potter in Vaison-la-Romaine, Provence, France; and a pottery olive oil jar from Positano, Italy. Hanging above the bookcase, I have an antique English mezzotint. I just took down my Zhostovo Russian Trays (got those in Moscow in 1974) that had been hanging around my rangehood. I decided that I didn't like the black colors up on the wall.

I personally do not like art work in a kitchen. I don't think it's the place for it. In addition to being beautiful, kitchens should be functional (so I like to decorate with things that make sense, things that would be found in a kitchen) and they should be sanitary (so things likes art and rugs do not belong there). Sconces also do not belong in a kitchen because they do not produce the correct lighting and for sanitary reasons and safety (something sticking out of a wall). Without pictures, I would say if it's a large wall with nothing on it, make that an actual functioning space in some way with a bakers rack or a spice rack or something that makes sense that it would be in a kitchen.

Good start to remove the clutter first ...saving only the pieces you really love...then ..i would paint the cabinets a pretty but pale color...and leave the walls the same.... so your favorite decor pieces will show nicely on the light background...lastly when returning things to the walls i would try to cluster matching things into groups more than little groupings all over..lastly i would try to move the microwave cart a little to the left and add a little longer top for a drop off counter with shelves under for your bag ?...groceries ?...things you need to temporarily need to sit down

Or, maybe a bit of something above the cabinets! Depends on how many cabinets you have & how much other stuff you have displayed in adjacent areas. If you do add anything, try larger items related to some theme - no small dust catchers. And maybe it’s something that ties into green of chairs. I have really large decorative platters on easels & some bigger ceramic pots above my cabinets. Easy to get the platters down when needed. A suggestion here - you made an investment updating backsplash & counter but what about your cabinet hardware? I think you’d get major impact updating that item! You’re changing your stove & hood to stainless & black which will be great with your BS tile. Depending on what your other appliances are, maybe consider polished nickel handles? Mixed metals work in kitchens too. I agree about the sconces - I wondered what the rest of that corner looks like and if there’s lighting above the table. From another of your pics it looks like that table is in kitchen.
