36" gas cooktop: Jenn-Air (6 burner) or Thermador (5 burner)?
Comments (1)Hi! As far as brands go, I can't comment because I have a gas bertazzoni (love it). But I was conflicted as to a 5 or 6 burner model because I do a lot of cooking. Initially thought I should go for the 6 burner. More possibilites, right? Well, luckily before purchasing I did a "frequently used pan inventory" and realized 3 or more large pans in use would push against each other on the 6-burner range. So I went with the 5 burner configuration because there is more room between pans and no crowding. Hope this helps!...See MoreIs makeup air neccessary for a 600 CFM hood?
Comments (6)I have a Viking range and hood, and we love them. My gas water heater and furnace are in an attached garage, and I live in a mild climate area, so my situation is different from yours, BUT, speaking simply from the hood's operating efficiency, you need to have make up air coming from somewhere for the hood to work. Air is stupid, it will come from wherever available - leaks in the house, down an exhaust vent from a gas appliances, etc. Unless you get the model with the remotely mounted motor, the thing gets so noisy that you will rarely use it at full power. We're normally at half, unless we're cooking many smelly things. In those instances, the fan is on high, a window is cracked, and you can't hear yourself think but the exhaust works great. Stay away from the downdraft models - they don't work. I'm not saying they don't work as well, I'm saying they don't work. We had a friend get one based on a decorator's advice, we tried to talk them out of it, they now regret the decision. Easiest solution - use it on low or medium for most uses, and crack a window for the brief instances when you need really good airflow because you're using many burners or you need to exhaust stinky smells....See MoreMiele vs Jenn Air - gas cooktop
Comments (10)We just ordered the 42" Miele lp gas cooktop, so I am certainly hopeful that it is a good one! The thing that drew me to it (besides getting an incredibly good scratch n dent price) was the configuration of the burners. When we went through a nice sized appliance store and looked at all of the gas cooktops on display, not one had the configuration we were looking for: the ability to cook in multiple large pots all at once. The Miele has this. (Actually, a 36" Bosch at Lowes would have also worked, but with "only" 5 burners and a higher price than what I got the Miele for, we ruled it out pretty quickly.) I've linked a review of the 36" Miele gas cooktop from epinions that I found to be helpful. Miele's owner's manual for the 30", 36" and 42" gas cooktops covers all 3 models so I'm pretty sure they all run in pretty much the same way. Here is a link that might be useful: 36...See MoreGas Cooktop: Bosch or Jenn Air
Comments (3)Cyndi- My husband works in the appliance industry. Through his network, we were offered an incredible deal on our appliances during our remodel. What I have now (A 48" Kitchenaid dual fuel 6 burner range w/griddle) is my favorite oven/range/stovetop to date. I know the pro ranges may be a love/hate item w/the Houzz crowd...I'm in the LOVE crowd. It's precision cooking/baking with the easiest clean up I've had w/any unit. I highly recommend dual fuel (gas cooktop/electric oven) w/whatever brand or model you opt for given your space/budget. Best wishes in your selection, and take care. :)...See MoreD B
