letting go of formal dining room

Our house is 3632 sf so a good size. The front room as you walk in is a formal dining room that we never use. I'm wondering if we'd be de-valuing the house for resale purposes if we convert that room into a combination laundry, butler's pantry, and walk in food pantry? How important is it for a newer and larger home to have formal dining? The kitchen nook that we do use is not big enough for a large table and chairs so I'm torn. This is not our forever home, but we'll be here another 3 years or so till my husband retires. Should I remodel that room so it's useful to us or keep a formal dining room for the next owners???

Thanks for all opinions offered.
