Confused about granite
Comments (3)I love Madura gold too. Madura gold is a warmer color where NVG or Santa Ceceilia has a cooler cast to the color making it look nice with white cabinets or cooler shade cabinets. It truly depends on the slab you are looking at. All the granites you like would look beautiful with the cabinet color you have chosen. I found a few inspiration pics that maybe can help you visualize. Now you will have to think of edge style. : ) All very exciting in your new kitchen. Have you been to FKB yet? It is a great place to visit on GW to see the finished kitchens. It helps to see how the stone might look with your color cabinets. And do a search of your color granite on the search option of GW. That will give you a chance to see how others have chosen and what they are doing. All excellent ideas when planning your own kitchen. Comments (3)Will you be doing anything about the lighting? It looks like you might currently have fluorescent? I think warmer lighting (that more mirrors natural light) might also go a long way!...See MoreConfusion w/Licensed contractors +countertop Fabrication& installation
Comments (12)You cannot feel your job is over because someone has a license. You need to choose the slabs, figure out and approve the layout and examine and approve the product before it leaves the shop. Look at seam layout. And ask for a sample of or see how any seams are treated. Look at past work of the installers for that. And there's more. . .like proper sink install and more. Start by reading counter problem threads in the kitchen forum and make a list. Talk about everything with the fabricator and installers ahead of time to set your reasonable standards....See MoreConfused about countertop behind slide in range
Comments (21)All the comments are concerned about how much a counter top overlaps the actual base cabinet which is 24" deep in most cases. The counter will hang over the cabinet another inch (0'-1") so the depth would be 25". What nobody has mentioned is the actual depth of the range itself. For example, an LG range's depth dimension is 29-9/32", so this range is going to protrude 4 to 5 inches past the cabinets and counter installed as-is already. Most of the slide-in ranges are built for ZERO clearance at the back, and are designed to sit flush against the wall. If you are installing a true "drop-in" range, then you would most likely need a strip of counter at the back because this design necessitates it. These are "slide-in" ranges, that are designed to fit into the space a conventional range would normally fit. If you add a 1-2" strip of counter top behind a slide-in, your range will protrude 6-7" past the counter top. It will look kind of ridiculous how far out it will protrude if this is done. If you want a more integrated look, do a drop-in range, which are harder to find, and not as nice looking as the newer slide-in type. Or just do a flat top and a separate over unit....See Moreeam44
