We don't use one but looking on Amazon, two top rated brands seemed to be a bit inconsistent. I was looking at Oxo (usually decent stuff) and the German made Westmark.

Maybe it's the case that flimsy gadgets like egg slicers can only be expected to have short term lives. If you use it a lot and are okay replacing it regularly, that may be what to expect.

LOL. Are you hard on egg slicers or what ;0) I have one thats so old I can't even find a name on it...probably aluminum and I'm thinking a Scandinavian name (?). One piece, top lifts and slices when lowered.

The one I reach for most often though (because its compact, easy to clean) is Prepworks by Progressive. I think it was in a Christmas stocking one year, I've had it maybe 5 years?

I use a sharp knife. Easy to store, easy to find, easy to clean.

I have two. One is a Hoffritz which I've had for years and the other is a cheap little plastic job that I've had for years......no name on that one. Looking up egg slicers, the #1, best of the best, is OXO. It's $9.99 at Amazon. Order now and you'll have it tomorrow or Friday.

Elmer, yes, I saw the German Westmark and am leaning toward that one, but if you look at the pictures that reviewers posted, one of the negatives is that the metal is painted with a silver/gray paint and tends to peel after a few times of use. But it also has many good reviews, which makes me wonder if some people are just tossing it into a dishpan to soak after use, contributing to the problem.

Morz8, I guess maybe we ARE hard on egg slicers. Or there are so many bad ones made and we make bad choices. the Prepworks is also one I'm considering. Ease of cleaning is a definite plus.

I need a new one. I have the basic cheap plastic kind. The hinge is the problem with those. If I could still use a knife to slice I would but I can't.

Westmark Durlex, made in W Germany, so that gives you its age range. And I’m pretty sure it’s on the early end of that range. It does, however, need a new wire, one ”slot” is gone.

btw, I don’t think it is painted, no peeking, just age.

A month ago, I threw out my decades old egg slicers that never worked all that well and were falling apart. I treated myself to an OXO egg slicer. What a sturdy, quality product. I highly recommend it.

We have the OXO Good Grips Egg Slicer, purchased on Amazon. It's great. Makes perfect slices every time.

Bpath, I would love to have one like yours. Alas, the only Westmark egg slicers I can find have a coating of silver gray paint which reviewers complain chips off rather quickly. I may still give that one a try.

No brand name on mine -- aluminum and at least 40 years old.

I found a new use for it the other day. I had a log of cookie dough. Press the wire tines into the dough to mark perfect 1/4" slices.

bpath that's the one I use too!! Inherited it from my MIL. She used to have a cooking show back in the day..I have found all slicers to work perfect UNTIL I attempt strawberries or mushrooms. They are the cause of the lose, snapped, bent wires. For this reason I have several and keep my egg slicer for eggs alone.
