Frustrating trip to the paint store (and internet vs real life)
Comments (10)BAFrancy & Bubbam, Good grief!!...I wish you two could come to ND to our store!! We've had Cabinet-Coat for YEARS! We're an ACE store. MOST ACE stores can get CC, but some may be Gun-shy if they've never had it. Minimum order is 2 gallons. * On a similiar note, ACE just came out with their version of CC, called "ACE Cabinet, Door & Trim" paint. * The big win with the ACE is that it's 50-State VOC-legal right out of the gate. * Both CC & the ACE clean up with soap & water. * The ACE is tintable to 98% of the normal ACE colors, although there's no "Red or Yellow-Base" in this new line. * Both have Alkyd & Latex resins..."Hybrids" if you will! >>> Myself & others have posted lots about CC & the new ACE version on this forum. >>> I grinned pretty wide when you referenced the BIN primer comment!! We sell a lot of BIN, to novice AND Pros! >>> 123 IS a good primer on wood. Kinda smelly for a Latex, but a very good primer. * I wouldn't use Oil anywhere on your cabs. For the smoothest look possible, you can sand your primer lightly after a longer drytime. * An Oil PRIMER is OK, but the latexes are equal nowadays. * There's really no advantage to Oil topcoat(s). They start to yellow as part of the natural aging/curing. * Remove dust, and use 2 coats of CC/similiar, one day apart. It's kinda funny...every so often, customers at our counter tell others..."Yeah, you DO need to use the Gray-primer like he said..."!! Faron...See MoreWould this appliance change work w/o total remodel?
Comments (22)Q-What is just to the right of the wall oven today? A- To the right of the wall oven is the doorway into the dining room. I agree with buehl that the current place of the cooktop is terrible. It seems that anyone walking by could brush their arm against a flame. I'd want to do something about it right away. I was thinking about the original question of removing the wall oven and filling that space with a range + micro. These things popped into my mind: - I assume there is some type of 'wall' barrier to the right of the wall oven today, right? So, was your husband suggesting to retain the cabinet/wall structures that are currently around the wall ovens, and slipping in the range/micro combo between the two 'walls'? - If his idea was to retain those wall structures, then potentially the right hand oven 'wall' would be a safety barrier between anyone walking through that doorway and the new range. However, you would probably have to remove the left hand oven 'wall' so that you have a landing place to the left of the new range. And buehl pointed out the need for air flow. Is the wall oven gas now? If gas, do you know what logistics it takes to remove it? I think that if you were to take the stop gap measure to put a freestanding range/micro there, it might have to be electric. I don't know if you could safely have a gas freestanding range with cabinet-like walls around it. You'd have to consult the installation booklet for the electric range to find out how close it can be to any combustible material on the side. If it is a freestanding electric range, I believe that it can be right up against a combustible item (for example, cabinet wall or house wall--I'm going by my own freestanding range's booket). Buehl is probably right about the building code if the range is gas; however, for a job of removing a wall oven and putting in an electrical outlet into which you plug in a new freestanding range, I am wondering if you'd even have to get a permit and have an inspection of that new range. I mean, if the wall oven is gas, there might need to be a permit for a gas pipe person to disconnect the gas, and if there's not a suitable electric receptacle for the new range, then you'd need an electrician to install one, and he'd need to get a permit to install the circuit/line for that new receptacle. But after that work is done and it's an empty space with an electric receptacle, and you buy a range and put it in position, I doubt there's any building office requirement where you call an inspector to come and inspect where you plugged in the new range. I guess what I'm saying is that if there's some 'wall' to the right of the wall oven space that you can keep to protect people from walking through that doorway and into your burners, and if you remove the left hand 'wall' so you have a landing space to the left of the range and proper air flow, then I can see how your husband's idea might work. It would get......See MoreWhat is the experience of "on-line" time to upgrade W7 to W10?
Comments (60)Nice to see "Happy Campers".. was was hopeful as the load, long time as it was, seemed to load everything, all my history and some rather old drivers, e.g., Palm Desk Top. But over a short time, must be about the start of this thread date, the whole computer has bogged down, not just browser, both Firefox and IE, I'm not using the newer whatever-browser, but even the WiFi interface. I try to remember to shut down my WiFi when I am done, but leaving the computer on. Then I click on the wireless Icon and click connect. It is not a click, click, click operation, long (what 5+ seconds or longer) delay getting to each click. Wasn't that way in the beginning. I use a password as that is port of the IE security for saved passwords, I use a master pass word on Firefox.. suppose that's the problem? Wasn't in the beginning. Just before this exploration and gripping Firefox forgot all, I mean all, its personal data. I did a refresh on Firefox, then a restore on Windows 10, still total amnesia for Firefox. I have backup on a flash drive, but haven't plugged that in to recover. Seems houzz log on survived, must be something at the houzz end, not Firefox memory. On Linux, I used the Ubuntu GRUB to set up the dual boot, and right now I don't recall what the problem is... maybe it too slowed down, maybe there's something wrong with my mental clock too high an expectation. That possibility noted, I did some blogging on the Ubuntu forum, now a member, and there was some agreement on the problem. I have considered using XUbuntu to resurrect a XP Dell desktop that is very sick. But rather than dual boot, thinking using a USB Hard drive as the boot for XUbuntu and leave the Windows boot loader in tack. I think that leads to my too slow peeve. I suppose I may have problems with drivers too with Ubuntu.. I want to run my laser printers for one thing. The one dual boot I have worked "out of the box" with my WiFi....See MoreHow close is it in real life? [Copying internet design]
Comments (24)If you take a picture to the beauty shop they will try to give you a similar haircut to the one in the picture, but you won't suddenly grow more or different hair. Your inspiration picture was fit into a regular home without the same architectural detail and space. It does not look exactly the same, but it looks nice. I would have placed the two shelves so that the top of the two shelves was lower than the top of the 3 shelves and would have placed the two shelves centered between the wall and the tv backing or the same distance from the backing as the 3 shelves. The only other change I would make is changing the round pulls to bars. Did it suddenly transform your home into a modern luxury mansion, double the space in your living room and create new architectural detail? No. Does it have a great, modern feel and look custom and beautiful? Yes....See More- 6 years ago
