Quest for Perfect Red Garden Rose
Comments (9)My "red"eye might not be a match for yours....but I have two suggestions for you. My first one is Braveheart. Just an outstanding rose. My second rec is Janice Kellogg. Another beautiful red cabbage style rose. I also like Alec`s Red, but it is not cabbage style. A beautiful red, tho! I also love my crimson Bouquet, but mine is not as full s my first recommendations. Good luck...I love red roses. I cut ten Mr. Lincolns today and my whole house smells so good. Comments (86)Mine are doing great here. I put two in full sun on an arch. The other I recently moved to my veggie garden and put it on an arch with Bathsheba. The one I most recently moved is still growing new roots but has reached the top of the arch. The other two have been blooming all summer on and off. Yes, you need this romantic lavender climber! If you like lavenders, I also recommend Poseidon. It is more of a blue-grey toned lavender kinda like Blue Girl. It does well here and gets tall. It can be grown like a short climber. Its a good bloomer in full sun. This is the color I get on Quicksilver here...See MoreAugusta Luise, one of my perfect roses
Comments (25)This conversation about AL makes me VERY happy I put her where I did. I do not have many truly good spots for roses; my soil is surprisingly alkaline and hard clay plus excessive tree roots and lots of shade. The spot she is in has good loam and good sun. She does seem to like this spot and I hope moving her a couple of weeks ago (condensing roses to make more room for roses) doesn’t throw her off. The move was only about three feet so conditions should be the same. She is probably my most coveted rose and I really want her to grow up to look like Diane’s!...See MoreTeasing Georgia & Strawberry Hill, two perfect roses in my garden
Comments (14)Thank you @Minshen (8b/9a Victoria BC) , @Chris Martins Zone6a Chicago , @dianela7bnorthal , @Sheila z8a Rogue Valley OR , @sbrklyn_7bny . @sbrklyn_7bny There are many roses don't perform well in my garden but I collect unique beautiful roses, so I'm happy to have them in my garden, ex: powdery mildew (Tijana, Osiria...), rust (Abraham Darby, William Morris...) Teasing Georgia has good vase life for an Austin. If you want even longer vase life, you can try Evelyn. @Sheila z8a Rogue Valley OR How is your garden in summer? What's the average temperature there? @dianela7bnorthal I think Strawberry will perform as well as Raspberry Cream Twirl in your garden. @Minshen (8b/9a Victoria BC) Agree, Strawberry Hill fragrance is lovely. We often don't have black spot in California so I'm not sure about Teasing Georgia's black spot resistance. You can check with other gardeners who live in black spot areas.
