Can we transplant Thinnings of Amaranth grown from seed in ground?

I've tried googling this, to no avail. Yes, easy to transplant if you have grown them inside. But I just threw some seed on the ground in 3 separate spots 24" apart. It's time to thin them, and we have an area that needs color on the other side of the yard against a wrought iron fence. They will get hit by a sprinkler every other day, but they are drought friendly. Anyone have experience with them? We live in Riverside County in the hills overlooking Hemet, CA.

I love all things edible and every part of Amaranth is and also gorgeous in bloom. The young leaves can be used in salads and sandwiches. Older leaves can be used like spinach. When the flower heads dry they become grain like quinoa. You can pop those grains like popcorn for a crunch in anything also.

Can I transplant the thinnings?
