Mystified: choosing a ceiling paint to work with wall colors
Comments (17)I just want to say (as I always do) that there is no rule against combining cool and warm colors! I don't mean to be obnoxious (can't help it sometimes) but I see that "rule" mentioned here again and again and it just isn't accurate. I find myself jumping up and down saying "No No No" when people say you cannot mix warm and cool tones. In fact, a space will often be more interesting to the eye with a variation between warm and cool. Imagine a room with all warm tones, no pale blue pillow, no watery green vase with flowers, no crisp white trim, no silvery glint from a mirrored table. All warm or all cool can be boring. Mixing things up in a thoughtful way is what makes a room interesting, IMO. You don't have to do it, but you shouldn't not do it. Just to make my life easier, almost all of my rooms have the same pale blue-gray ceilings. Some of the walls are a warm sand color, some are mid green, some are the very palest-yet-warm yellow. You could use a warm ivory on all the ceilings and it would look just as nice with a deep blue as it would with a warm tan. I personally find the pale blue I have used to just disappear...therefore it is a "neutral" to my eye....See MoreBedroom Needing Color- Amidst White Walls, Wood Trim/Furniture
Comments (4)I know this sounds odd, but I would remove the final pointy ends from the posts on the bed, as on your first inspiration photo. To me it looks very odd. I would definitely do simple curtain panels reaching to the floor and also a rug to give some softness to this room with so much wood. Perhaps very light blue walls with a green and cream bedspread and cream curtains....See Moredecorators white kitchen cabinets need bright white wall/ceiling/trim
Comments (2)thank you so much for your response! The floors are quarter sawn white oak that will be stained a warm med tone walnut color. nothing too dark. I did realize when i posted this that my cabinets will touch the ceiling so I decided to go with the same white throughout most of the house on the ceilings, Decorators White. On the top floor, which is our master bedroom suite I think I'm going to use the Chantilly lace. It's a bit darker up there and I'm trying to make it as bright as possible. Thats the color of our vanity in the masterbath, so I may just do all the trim and ceilings that color. That floor is a clean break from all the other walls and trim, so it won't look like a mistake! Truthfully the place was a mess before renovation (we bought it that way) so I really just want everything clean and white!! I may end up doing what you suggested with the walls...still wishing for white, but don't I can steer away from the Decorators white without making the cabinets look dingy....See MoreHELP choosing family room wall color and whole house color palette
Comments (4)Swatching colors side by side on the old color doesn't really help. You need need white poster board painted the colors you are looking at with a white edge around it. Then you move them around the room during different times of the day to see the color in the space. OR you can order from Samplize to try colors. I would try the Prussian Blue in your rooms as suggested. I think it is going to way to bright....See MoreBeverlyFLADeziner
