I do think you could get some serious cooking done in that kitchen - it's got a sink, a dishwasher, a cooktop, an oven, and a bit of counter space to work on things in. Naturally it wouldn't look so spare and moody with pans and cutting boards on it! 😄 For what it's worth, it has more counter space than the kitchen that the architects proposed for my future apartment! 😬

I can’t imagine why you would want to install it like that. If you install it under the counter, you could use the same wall space for a cabinet to replace the space you gave to the oven, so you haven’t gained any storage.

Agreed. Plus it's unlikely that you're going to want to use the counter top directly under the oven that's sticking out into your face. This Blomberg BWOS24110B 24" wall oven (for example) is 22" deep, only 3" less than the typical countertop beneath it and requires a platform that can support 220 lbs, minimum.

The advice elsewhere on this forum is to not mount those under the counter, as tempting as it may be for space considerations, because when you open the door after using the steam or steam bake modes, a burst of steam comes out going more or less straight up! Aka, where your face is if you're stooping down to open an oven. D:

A typical installation for this kind of oven is in a high cabinet, and we could do that, but it would be nice to have a passthrough space/landing zone under it. The normal space for a high cabinet is at the end of a run of counter, but that's already taken by the other wall oven. On the other end of the run of counter is the pantry cabinet and the refrigerator. We don't want to stack the ovens because that usually limits you to two ovens from the same brand and it would put one or both of the ovens too high or too low for comfortable use.

As for space, we're not doing regular upper cabinets because my experience over the past 20-odd years has been that I hate working at countertops with wall cabinets over them and will go to some fairly extreme lengths to avoid doing so, so it's not displacing a wall cabinet.

I'm fine with having the oven on the wall (edited to add: in spite of my declared dislike of wall cabinets) because I won't be using the area under it as a work surface, just as a landing zone. I suppose we could mount a single 24" wide wall cabinet there instead, but we'd still need somewhere for the combi steam oven. Mounting it under the counter would steal some of our precious, precious drawer space - we're doing a mostly or entirely drawer base cabinets kitchen. That's not accounting for the steam in face issue, which is another reason to not put it under the counter.

We're working with a pretty constrained space and we care a lot about ergonomics/ease of use, which is why I'm looking at some out of the ordinary solutions.

You could have an oven tower with a large bit of open shelving below (or above) the oven for similar utility. Stick a piece of counter material in it and it's really close. (Stick a microwave and some cookbooks in it and it's mine!)
