Best location for seam - sink under bay window vs. corner?
Comments (6)Do you have an apron/farmhouse sink? I have a seam right in the middle behind mine and am quite happy with it. Not noticeable at all despite being in front of a large window. I haven't seen a seam across a non-apron sink, so I'm not sure how that would look. Probably much more noticeable. Honestly, though, I've had seams to the right of my sink (previous kitchen) and also near the L corner (current kitchen, previous granite countertop) and they've all been fine. I think it has more to do with your fabricator and how well the seam blends in. So if he thinks the movement will match better near the corner, I'd probably lean that way....See MoreIgloochic and others - ? about your corner sink and windows
Comments (2)We purchased the house, in all of its 1980's horror because of that corner sink :) So I'd have to say, from the day I toured it, to now, five years later, I've never had a regret. Frankly, I guess I never thought of it, but I don't apparently look straight out, but instead look out of both of the windows. The only change I made to that design in the new remodel was to add the inset sink area which I absolutely love. We have that same set up on all of our floors. The first level window is much larger, from floor to ceiling, and the one in our master suite on the fifth level is the same as the kitchen. I absolutely love those views. I'd never change that. If I moved the sink over a bit, I'd have just one way to look out :) This way my view is always changing, and the amount of light that comes in is fabulous. It's also nice, when the light is too bright, to be able to close the blinds on one window, but leave the other open so you still have sun, just not beaming in on you. Master Suite corner (a bit dark in this pic) My kitchen is basically windows on two walls...you can see a hint of the bay window here as well: I had once considered putting the sink in the bay window (more slices of the view heh heh) after seeing a similar set up in a magazine. In the end, it would have reduced our eat in area too much and put it too close to the stove (which had to be on the wall it's on for ventalation). I would highly recommend the two window corner set up :) It feels good to work in, view or no view!...See Moreinstalling Kitchen sink in corner (Plumbing ?)
Comments (8)Mine comes up behind and in through the diagonal back of the cabinet, in the dead space created in the corner. I'll see if I can dig up a photo from before counter tops went in. Found a photo...you can see I built the corner cabinet 28" deep, which allows nice room behind the sink for all the hookups. New sink is single basin, so I since covered the extra hole in the cabinet back where the old waste was from our double bowl. Comments (12)Yes, I realize the one picture is not as new construction. But with those size limitations. I feel like it then puts Two verticals close to the corner instead of One in the corner, and I don't think it really improves the view, it's not like opening the corner prevented blocking the Eiffel Tower or anything and the skyline is actually blocked on the left. I think it ends up as a "look what I can do" sort of trick that isn't worth the effort. The second picture with the big expanse of a single pane of glass may well be worth the expense if you have the budget. that is the true sort of voided corner that International Style architects were all over. The corner slider is the sort of thing that will get less expensive with economies of scale, and may in fact, have a positive impact on how those rooms actually work in an inside/outside blurring kind of way. For my money I would probably want the fixed glass panoramic thing unless I lived in a perfectly temperate climate completely without flying insects....See MoreWoodhaven Renovations
