Can I propagate frosty echeveria from leaf?
Comments (12)I bought this from eBay but received it with a terrible status, please see the photo & guess she's quite sick, seller wrapped it loosely with bubble plastic which I normally receive same kind of packaging from other sellers, but it was fully covered by wet soil when I opened the parcel, normally Royal Mail does the roughly delivery job even taped around of "fragile handle with care".. but succulents I received before were in dry soil & they were easily back to form after repot. Anyone can help me to cure this plant? I really love her style when I 1st met it on eBay, please help !...See MoreLeaf Propagation
Comments (20)Drakens, if you look over at the gallery, at the New S.t. "Laurentii" post you will see a plant torn apart. There is one picture of four leaves on the same run. This is how they grow and why it looks like two plants up top. These plants reproduce by 'runners'. One of the big deals about leaf prop versus offsets (or pups) is that markings and variagation doesn't come true from a leaf prop. In my plant 'tool' bucket, I keep a big ole serrated knife that I use for doing just this type of work. You can snap it apart with your hands, but then it seperates in an area of weakness that might not have been your choice place. Better to cut where you want it. You can pot it up into two pots right away, but let it dry a few days (so it can form a callous and protect from rot) before you water....See MoreDeranged leaf propagation: test your ID skills
Comments (26)I also collect a few here and there, myself ;) After my pot-jumpers began growing I couldn't help but eye up the other orphaned leaves lying about in the store... (weird - I thought I'd already responded to this thread above, but my comment is not here) i wish you luck with the nodulosa! I rescued a dish garden with a severed nodulosa, as I've coveted this Echeveria for some time, but never see it for sale. I have four fallen nodulosa leaves propagating, all of which have roots, but after several weeks still no buds. The severed head is rooted and growing now (yay!) but the stem section that had air roots hasn't sprouted anything yet either....See MorePropagating Hoya Kerrii from leaf - is this enough stem?
Comments (9)I bought a Hoya Kerri plant about 4 years ago - it was just a leaf in a pot (one of those Valentine's specials). The leaf remained the same for about 6 months. There was no sign of growth above the soil. I was eventually curious un-potted it and was surprised to see that it had a strong root system going. I then checked on the net and found info that you can only expect it to start showing signs of growth above soil level after about a year. I repotted it into a small clay pot and after about 6 months a small shoot appeared, which then grew steadily and at about 2 years it flowered for the first time. My plant is now about a metre long creeping up a wall, winding itself along a wire i had suspended to help it grow vertically. Maybe I was just lucky....I don't know. I did buy a second plant in its leaf cutting form about a year ago (this one was varieagted). It died after a few months!...See MoreLiberyx (Poland 7a)
