Comments (22)I love black and white elements, but didn't care for your wallpaper choices at first glance. Seeing your inspiration pictures changed my mind about the stripes though. I'm still not keen on the spots (maybe if I loved dalmations), but I think the stripes look really cool :) I want to do something fun and dramatic in our powder bath, where we have bead board on the bottom and a pedestal sink (a lot like your inspiration picture) with polished nickel fixtures, but I can't seem to commit to anything. For years I've kicked around ideas of painting the upper walls a dark color and/or covering it with a gallery wall (like ttodd's black and white gallery wall in her family room), wallpapering the upper walls, or painting a wallpaper-like stencil on them. But I can't seem to decide, so it remains a boring yellow color. I do like the bead board, but it limits my choices because whatever I do has to work with it. Comments (82)Im on board with you Beth. I love the look too. But I think I would do black at the bottom and a gold ceiling. I had a similar look a several years ago. I also love the sink with the black legs. BUT..... It would take a minor miracle for me to get my dh to agree to changing the sink at the moment. He just agreed to painting the awful honey oak kitchen cabinets that he seems to be in love with. Also while I am really drawn to the color black, my kitchen/dining room are black and I am painting my kitchen cabinets black. The powder room seperates the kitchen/dining room and the living room. I dont want everything to look all matchy matchy. But thats silly because I have 3 black walls right now. LOL How do you think it would look if that black and white paper were on all 4 walls, floor to ceiling? I ask that after I have stated several times that I only want to do one wall. Comments (21)If the paper is bonded that well, leave it. The reason you remove it is to prevent it from coming down when you don't intend it to, but it obviously doesn't want to. We went through the same thing on a DIY powder room project and I was determined to "do it right." We steamed, sprayed, used fabric softener, some other product, tried a couple of different tools (don't bother with the Tiger things -- they do more damage than good-- awful!) . At some point you realize you are doing more damage to the sheetrock and getting very little paper removed. We were either going to have to redo the sheetrock and much more work than we intended or I was going to have to give up on what I was "supposed to do." I got the same advice from a painting store guy I trusted and a couple of pros -- so I went with it. To prep the wall with paper in place, you clean it and remove loose edges, float the edges with mud like you do drywall tape and prime it with a shellac primer (the original KILZ-- the stink stuff). If the walls are going to be textured, you can prime first to seal bond between the paper and the drywall, then float the seams and texture. The shellac will mean that paper will become glued to and a permanent part of the drywall -- but it works. I've done it in that powder room and one other room -- don't remember which now, but neither had any problems with the texture, paint or the paper bubbling or peeling....See MoreChris Hansen

3 years agoFloor is 2 1/2" hardwood (typical old hardwood color). I have attached pics of floor, the vanity and the marble counter top. Thinking going to leave vanity counter top but put a vessel sink that covers the prior sink cutout along with all new plumbing hardware. Also considering replacing counter top but not sure yet. With added info, let me know any paint color suggestions and wall paper suggestions. Thank you

3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoI see no point to a vessel sink on a traditional builder white bath vanity, What feel do you want in the bath, other than you hated the paper? Or do you hate the ENTIRE vanity, top, and faucet? You are worrying about wall color. and having "size" . What feel you want and what feel goes to to the rest of your home?? A vessel is a pain in the rear end, works best with a WALL mounted faucet.
If you dislike the dark green marble, don't like the traditional faucet, aren't loving the white vanity? Get a new vanity.......Inky Navy. Pain the walls same, ad dART, a faucet you love.

3 years agoBy the time you add a new sink, counter and faucet, I would consider a new vanity. Hopefully the floor will allow for the change. Your last decision should be the walls, as the more important choices will dictate. I love wallpaper in a power room as it adds character.
Before making changes here and there, I suggest looking for inspiration regarding color scheme, style, and individual components - have a plan.
