I like him too. He seems so down-to-earth.

Ditto.

Yes I also will miss them. He said it like it was, and did it well.

I, too, shall miss his press conferences. He's been a wonderfully sane and sensible influence to those in my neighboring State as well. Whenever I've had a "need to know" I could usually find an answer through his media records.

For ages New York politics has been a snake pit and still is. Governor Cuomo grew up in family that was successful in that environment (remember that his father was also NY Governor) and he has been successful himself.

The ability to lead and to act in a statesman-like manner has no political affiliation. It's only that one party at the moment has turned to falsehoods and lies that makes office holders from the other party look significantly better. Gov. Cuomo is a politician, make no mistake, but he demonstrates the leadership qualities the public deserves to have, whether one agrees with his policies or not.

I’m in Michigan and I totally get what you mean. I loved his briefings too. I found them to be scary & comforting all at the same time. Even though they weren’t 100% relevant to where I live, I knew it would be eventually. Most comforting was that I could trust what he was saying.

While I may not agree with all of his views, there’s no question that he’s good at what he does and his heart is in the right place. In many ways, our governor has followed his lead and that is comforting too.

Like Lukki, I’m also in Michigan, and enjoyed his briefings. Loved the chin guard demonstration the other day.

I love Andrew Cuomo and his brother Chris. Andrew provided straightforward, sensible, and compassionate leadership in a time when our president failed. I too watched his briefings and found them both and comforting.

This Oklahoman will miss him a great deal.

How I wish for that type of communication and clarity in the White. House!!! What a jewel he was in that role!

Though I don't live in Canada, 8 also enjoyed watching PM Trudeau's daily briefings. He left the data to the minister of health, and focused on what the government was doing to support the people. He spoke of unity, he never accused, and sounded reassuring. Canada and Trudeau have their own issues, to be sure, but those daily talks especially in the early days of the pandemic were well-crafted. And in two languages. He and Cuomo were my "team".

This thread is just another example as to why regardless of one’s circumstances or the challenges posed to get your vote in, EVERY SINGLE PERSON needs to vote in November. Vote. Vote. Vote. Even if we don’t agree 100% with a Candidates’ thoughts on policy, we still need to be able to trust that we are in good hands and right now, we are NOT. To make policy changes takes a village, but true leadership starts at the top and we are seeing what bad leadership can do. Enough is Enough.

"Though I don't live in Canada, 8 also enjoyed watching PM Trudeau's daily briefings. "

I generally don't watch the news so I hadn't seen any of Trudeau's pieces. BUT, I did see the one segment when he was asked a pretty pointed question and rather than attack the questioner (as has become the standard here among certain poiticians), he spent what was measured to be 25 seconds ( I think). staring at the cameras while composing his thoughts before speaking. Some mocked or criticized him for this, wrongly in my opinion. His words were well considered and I thought that was awesome and so very impressive.

That's a very good point, Lukki! I have a theory that many (especially young,) people don't vote because they don't know how to do so, and they're ashamed to admit that. The key, key thing they need to know, is that *one doesn't have to vote for everything on the ballot.* Some (most?) of the ballot measures are worded in tricky ways, making a yes or no vote not-so-obvious. One must also know how to decipher the language of a written measure, as well as its arguments pro and con. This must be learned! I saw somewhere that LeBron James is going to put some money into teaching people (not just kids, I hope,) how the voting process works. I keep meaning to attempt to write to him because I've never heard of anyone doing this before--maybe I live under a rock--and I think it will be especially helpful.

Elmer, several times, in other briefings, Trudeau was asked a question about the US or Trump, and he could have taken the bait but never did. He would answer along the lines of “we are dealing with this issue in Canada as Canadians. Here is what we are doing . . .” and bring it all back. No digression.

I saw the segment you mentioned, and you could see the inner turmoil, he almost spoke and almost physically had to catch the words before they came out of his mouth. He got into scrapes with Trump before, you’ll recall, and I guess he didn’t want to go down that road again, knowing there would be no benefit to him or his country, and that it would be a distraction.

He certainly knows how to stay focused.

Sjerin, I notice in my own community that people don’t look at the ballot before they go in to vote, and some of the items are unexpected. The ballot should be available on your city or county website. It’s also confusing when you live near but not in a city or county with an active campaign over an issue: you go in to vote, and all the issues that you’ve been bombarded with over the previous months are nowhere to be found, because they aren’t for you.

Sjerin, I‘ve been voting since the 70’s and didn’t know that you could skip an item! Thanks for sharing that. Also what a great point about new voters and so true!!! It sure can be confusing!

I wish anyone who is of voting age would set aside 30 minutes from their day (every day) to listen to or read about current Political events. I saw so many interviews during the 2018 elections where even while they stood in line, they still weren’t sure about how they were going to vote, Yes, we need to vote, but we also need to understand the issues at heart so everyone can vote with confidence.

Of course, I"ll vote. Its imperative to keep America America. I can't even begin to fathom the wreckage that will ensue and that we'll once again have to endure if Biden or his team get in.

Harris County is suffering greatly under very corrupt blue rule. Moreso than what we've seen in a long time. We have an adolescent judge who was the unintended consequence of straight party voting. We lost a very fine, wise judge with years of experience who got this town through several major disasters with efficiency and expertise. God help us all if we have another Harvey with Lina at the helm. We have a district attorney who let felons out on the street because of COV. The crime rate here has shot up astronomically and the mayor said "Y'all just chill for awhile" to the inmates who were released. Great example of our leadership. I READ the ballot. I KNOW how my choices have voted. We've got Dems running as Republicans, so it's critical to study the candidates.
